Announced on October 30, Death Note: Killer Within is a social deduction game which pits Light Yagami (a.k.a. Kira), and his equally demented Kira Followers, against (Interpol Detective) L and a squad of investigators in a classic battle of the wits. Here’s a quick description to save you a click. Stop me when you’ve heard this one before.

Killer Within is game of two phases. The Action Phase sees players gather clues and complete tasks as they move through the overworld. The Meeting Phase brings everyone together to discuss their findings and establish suspects. The game can end in a few ways. Team Kira will win if L is eliminated. Team L will win if Kira is arrested. Alternatively, whichever team fills up the Progress gauge (tied to the aforementioned tasks) will take home the victory.

Now, there’s nothing inherently wrong with this—Death Note makes for an admittedly compelling setting for such a game—but don’t you feel like you’ve already played this by now? Overlooking the obvious examples, there was already a version of this game done on Nintendo DS back in 2007.

Death Note: Kira Game never received a U.S. release, but there’s plenty of footage of it on YouTube, and fans translated the whole game to English years ago. Now, it goes without saying, but Killer Within is a dramatic step up in quality from a mid-2000s text-based handheld game. I personally don’t care for the toddler toy shaped-character models or their hauntingly empty eyes, but there is a novelty to the game’s inoffensive aesthetic compared to the grim, grisly nature of the manga and anime.

We haven’t seen much gameplay, but the quick glimpses in the reveal trailer look like a refined version of what Konami was going for all those years ago. Is it an improvement? Absolutely. Is it interesting? Not really, and that’s a major letdown for something as cool as cool and powerful as the Death Note.

However, maybe that’s unfair. Perhaps Fisher-Price Death Note will surprise me and be the game of my dreams. It’s free via PlayStation Plus (as part of November’s PS Plus lineup), so I’ll certainly give it an honest shot, but from the outside looking in, I can’t help but feel like we’ve already walked this path, and that the game is doomed from the start.

Anime adaptation video games have been stuck in a box for a long time. Fighting shows get the Ultimate Ninja Storm wrapping. More complex fantasy shows get the .HACK treatment. Everything else is consigned to the dark depths of mobile game genericism—uninspired Puzzle games, worn out Gacha systems, and the general death of all creativity.

There’s no reinventing the wheel here. Just by-the-numbers social deduction.

Sure, it feels awesome to jump into a brawler filled with your favorite Jujutsu Kaisen characters, but when every single franchise starts to feel the same, what’s left to do? Killer Within is a step out of those particular confines, but only by the thinnest of margins, which is a bit ridiculous for such a high-quality franchise. Death Note is a transcendental story. It stands the test of time as one of fiction’s best mysteries, thrillers, and psychological horrors ever. Just look at the sales numbers. The manga has received a barrage of adaptations and cultivated a legacy as strong as near any piece of popular fiction in the last twenty years. So, why have we not cracked the code on a proper videogame adaptation?

The easy answer lies in the story’s core identity. Death Note is super cerebral. Maybe there’s no way to make a compelling game when 90% of the drama takes place in the brain of deranged criminal (and the genius-level investigator who is chasing him.) Perhaps there’s no way to make an interesting game primarily about constructing a flawless string of murders. Especially not one that would require you to switch to the POV of various citizens of the most populous metropolitan area in the world. In fact, I can’t think of a single successful game that manages to balance methodical, slice-of-life concepts with anything bizarre at all. Maybe it is all too much. Too bad there’s no established formula for interesting choice-based games in the horror-thriller genre either.

Look, none of this is to say Killer Within won’t be fun. I still think you should give it a shot. I’m simply disappointed anime fans rarely get to dream big. Just like Death Note, other proven properties struggle to get a shred of original content. We’ve gone nearly 20 years without a Cowboy Bebop game. Doesn’t that feel criminal? I don’t want to wear a Faye Valentine skin in Overwatch 2, I want to be Faye Valentine and get up to hijinks on the Bebop. In that way, Death Note: Killer Within feels equally lame.

This is still a step in the right direction, given the entire game could have been an Among Us crossover, but the industry’s internal compass is way off. It’s a long way back to the trail, too. At this rate, we’ll never get that Dr. Stone open-world survival game of my dreams, and who wants to live in a world without that?

Sony has revealed its lineup of PlayStation Plus games that will be joining the service in November 2024. By all accounts, October has been one of the strongest months of the year for PS Plus as it featured Dead Space, WWE 2K24, and Doki Doki Literature Club Plus at no cost. This lineup was specifically great as it featured two horror titles just in time for Halloween. Now, with these PS Plus games set to depart in mere days, it’s now known what will be replacing them in a little under a week.

Going live on November 5th, PS Plus subscribers will be able to access Hot Wheels Unleashed – Turbocharged, Ghostwire: Tokyo, and Death Note: Killer Within. All three PS Plus games will be available natively for both PS5 and PS4 to all subscribers of the PlayStation service. They will then exit the platform the following month on December 2nd.

By far the biggest game of this group is that of Death Note: Killer Within. The reason that this is the highlight of PS Plus for November 2024 is because it’s actually a day-one addition to the platform. Based on the information of Killer Within that is currently available, it seems like a Death Note version of the hit indie game Among Us. Whether or not it ends up being that much more popular as a result of joining PlayStation Plus right away remains to be seen, but this is a release strategy that has worked out well for other publishers in the past.

You can learn more about all of the new PS Plus games joining the service in November 2024 by checking out descriptions and trailers for each below.

Hot Wheels Unleashed 2 – Turbocharged

“The world’s raddest cars are back and taking the fun to the next level! Race over 130 vehicles with crazy new mechanics and even more vehicle types. Plus, build your tracks with stunning new environments and different game modes to have fun off and online!”

Ghostwire: Tokyo

“Tokyo is overrun by deadly supernatural forces as a dangerous occultist causes the city’s population to vanish in an instant. Join forces with a powerful spectral entity on their quest for vengeance and master a powerful arsenal of abilities to unravel the dark truth behind the disappearance as you face the unknown in Ghostwire: Tokyo.”

Death Note: Killer Within

Death Note: Killer Within is an online social deduction game for up to 10 players. Players will be split into two teams with different objectives. To win the game, players will need to figure out each other’s identities and either eliminate L who threatens Kira’s power or seize the Death Note. Enjoy a battle of wits as Kira and his followers, or as L and the investigators in the world of Death Note. As equally matched opponents, the two teams clash to control the game while hiding their true identities from each other. The Death Note is hidden among the players, leading to a thrilling game of cat and mouse until one team overpowers the other. Each role has its own characteristics, allowing you to master a deep sense of strategy and tactical play. Depending on your assigned role, a wide range of strategies can be formulated, and each randomized scenario develops into a high-stakes game of tactics.”

Another Call of Duty launch week, another round of early bugs. The juggernaut franchise has delivered an unsurprising success with Black Ops 6, with the game garnering high praise for its dramatic Campaign mode and thrilling Zombies action. Multiplayer has faced a much more split reception, with new bugs and errors popping up just as fast as Treyarch can get them fixed.

This time around, it’s the Perk system. Players loading into Multiplayer matches may notice their Operators feel a bit underpowered, and that’s because an October 29th update has seemingly broken all but the first Perk slot in each loadout. This is a major issue, not just for the game-to-game experience, but also for those trying to rush through camo progression in the earliest days of the game. There is a temporary workaround for now, though, so here’s what you need to do.

From the outside, it seems that the issue stems from the first Perk slot. While a player’s loadout may show different Perks equipped, pulling up the Selection menu will only produce a repeat of the Slot 1 options. Instead of being able to choose from the normal perks in Slot 2, you’ll instead be greeted with repeats of Slot 1 options. That’s pretty difficult to notice from the outside, and that’s where Treyarch’s quick fix comes into play.

The new Perk Slots feature can be scrolled through in-game. Look to the top of the screen and select the spot that needs fixing.

Now, instead of equipping those loadout bonuses from the selection menu, players should use the Slots tab at the top of the Perk menu. This alleviates the problem and restores full functionality to all of your favorite loadout-enhancing options. You can also find the same menu while editing your loadouts mid-match, so there’s no worry about being stuck with useless Perks if you need to hotswap them in-game.

There are a few other bugs currently making life hard on the Multiplayer side of things. Random freezes during loading screens, receiving incorrect loadouts from the selection menu, and automatically dying after choosing a loadout in Search & Destroy are all on Treyarch’s list of things to fix.

It’s good to keep in mind that every Call of Duty has a few bumps in the road at launch, so loading into matches in the first week may come with any number of unpleasant surprises along the way. If you encounter a rare bug (or just want to know what’s being worked on at any given time), all of that information can be found on the developer’s Trello page. This is where the team tracks all known issues, documents fixes, and generally keeps the community informed on what’s coming down the pipeline.

It’s not all bad news for Multiplayer fans, however. The same October 29th update also brought the first post-launch content update to the game, with the fan-favorite Infected mode making its Black Ops 6 debut. Additionally, Nuketown will be the first map added to the game. A franchise staple, this version has none of the bells and whistles of later incarnations. It’s the pure, 1950s edition of the map that fans first fell in love with back in Black Ops 1.

Other maps are sure to come in the following weeks, as Season 1 is confirmed to kick off on November 14th. This is also when Raven Software and its other supporting studios will be bringing the full BO6 integration to Warzone.

In September, PlayStation made the surprising announcement that Concord would be taken offline after less than a month. The initial statement left the door open for the game’s eventual return, but that will not be happening. Today, PlayStation announced the closure of developer Firewalk Studios, and the decision to “permanently sunset the game.” In an internal email from Hermen Hulst, the PlayStation CEO revealed that there were internal discussions about “exploring all our options.” It seems the company did not see a way to make the game profitable, and it will not be coming back.

“The PvP first person shooter genre is a competitive space that’s continuously evolving, and unfortunately, we did not hit our targets with this title. We will take the lessons learned from Concord and continue to advance our live service capabilities to deliver future growth in this area,” Hulst writes.

The swift failure of Concord has been a hot topic of conversation over the last month. Despite the shutdown, the game is still slated to appear in an episode of Amazon’s Secret Level animated series. That episode will still be released as planned, even though the game will not be coming back. Secret Level won’t be released until December 10th, at which point Concord will have been offline for nearly three months. In a post on X/Twitter, Firewalk Studios addressed the game’s struggles as well as PlayStation’s decision to close the company. While the reaction to Concord was not what the team had been hoping for, the developer argues that it tried to do something unique and different.

“We took some risks along the way – marrying aspects of card battlers and fighting games with first-person-shooters – and although some of these and other aspects of the IP didn’t land as we hoped, the idea of putting new things into the world is critical to pushing the medium forward,” the company writes.

Unfortunately, Firewalk is not the only PlayStation owned studio that was closed today. Hulst also announced the closure of Neon Koi. The developer had been working on an action game for mobile devices, and PlayStation will no longer be moving forward with the project. Hulst says that PlayStation is still early in its mobile efforts, and wants to “concentrate on titles that are in-line with PlayStation Studios’ pedigree and have the potential to reach more players globally.”

Between mobile and live-service games, it seems PlayStation’s recent initiatives have struggled to find financial success. Unfortunately, this has now resulted in more studio closures, in what has already proven to be a difficult time for many in the video game industry. Hopefully those that lost their jobs at Firewalk Studios and Neon Koi will be able to find new places of employment.

A new update has gone live in Helldivers 2 this morning, and it offers a significant number of changes for players to experience. This update is not focused on new content, but instead on balance changes, bug fixes, and difficulty adjustments. Developer Arrowhead Game Studios has tweaked several different elements, and it will be interesting to see how the player community feels about them once they’ve had a little bit of time to test out the current version. The hotfix update should bring the game up to version 01.001.201.

One thing fans don’t seem particularly happy about is a change that was made to Emotes. Following today’s hotfix, players can no longer trigger Emotes “while airborne, ragdolling, or sliding.” Arrowhead notes that it will be monitoring that change, and looking for feedback from players. That leaves some hope that things could revert back if players really are unhappy with it, so fans will have to let the developers know how they feel. Over just the last few months, Arrowhead has shown a willingness to listen to players, and make adjustments based on feedback from the community, so we’ll have to see if the same holds true this time.

Full patch notes from the game’s official Steam page can be found below.

Building the perfect weapon is a major part of the online Call of Duty experience. Every years brings a new wave of options to test until our wrists fall off, all in search of mythical meta loadouts to make crushing public match lobbies a little bit more bearable. That goes for both Multiplayer and the yearly incarnation of Warzone.

The firing range is supposed to be the hub for all of this creation. Players can build, tweak, and test all in one place by trying out each new build against a couple of lanes filled with target dummies. It’s a bit of a barebones experience, even to the series’s own standard (remember Call of Duty: World War 2‘s headquarters?), but Treyarch has added two simple features to make things a lot easier on all of the mad Gunsmith scientists of the world.

As subtle as it may seem, the implementation of both a recoil test wall and an adjustable target dummy will be huge for Warzone players. Long-range gunfights happen much more often on a Battle Royale map like Urzikstan. Everyone who plays for more than a few minutes will experience a building-to-building shootout, high-ground to low-ground skirmish, or any other number of battles requiring pinpoint accuracy. Having peace of mind that your primary weapon isn’t a pea shooter downwind helps with that.

Players can track every single shot on the recoil wall.

Now, not only can players make sure their weapons are effective even against enemies with three full armor plates, but they can test a wider variety of ranges, and see a definitive recoil trail. This may not sound like much, but it’s far better than shooting at the weapon rack then inspecting the bullet holes like in previous years. That additional level of control makes a world of difference.

To use these features, just load into the Firing Range, select your weapon(s), and press down on the directional pad. One press will drop down the recoil board, and another quick press will release the adjustable target. The recoil target sits about seven meters out from the player and is completely blank. Each bullet fired leaves a distinct mark, leaving no doubt about how tight a gun’s spread is compare to its competitors. Pressing either down on the D-Pad or selecting new loadout will completely reset the board, wiping it clean for further testing.

The moving target however is a little bit different. Once dropped, you can choose exactly how far out the dummy sits by shooting it until it breaks. There are three possible ranges: the first is identical to the recoil wall at about 7 meters; the next is roughly 15m, putting it somewhere between the solitary dummies stationed at 10m and 25m; and finally, the longest option sits around 75m, well towards the end of the range.

These little quality-of-life updates only make up a small portion of what’s new in Black Ops 6. Between the introduction of Omnimovement, a classic high-quality Treyarch campaign, and a smash-hit Zombies mode, there’s plenty of reason to dive and get familiar with what’s to come before Warzone receives its own integration with the launch of Season 1 later this year.

One of the great PS1 games is currently being locked away on PS5 by PlayStation behind a paywall. When most PlayStation fans think of the greatest generation of PlayStation, they probably think of the PS2, the best-selling video game console of all time and a time where PlayStation dominated the console market. In comparison, what console doesn’t get as much love is the PS1, which simply may be the result of this generation of gaming coming before many PlayStation gamers. Also, a lot PS1 games don’t hold up very well.

One PS1 game that does hold up pretty well, and is a fan-favorite among many PlayStation fans, recently came to PS5 alongside a release in PS Plus Premium, the most expensive tier of the subscription service. The majority of PS1 games released via PS Plus Premium are available to non-subscribers as standalone purchases, usually for $9.99 or sometimes even less.

Every once in a while though, PlayStation deviates from this path and locks a a retro PlayStation game behind a PS Plus Premium subscription. And it has done this with one of the biggest PS1 games re-released on PS5 this year.

Those on PS5 who want to play Dino Crisis — which was recently re-released on PS5 — can’t currently buy the game outright like many other PS1 games on PS5. Rather, a PS Plus Premium subscription is needed. This means either forking over $17.99 for a one-month subscription or subscribing at the yearly $159.99 rate. Whatever the case, it is going to cost you more than it does to typically purchase PS1 games on PS5.

Whether this will change over time, we don’t know. This is obviously a play from Sony to get PS5 users to to PS Plus Premium, which means it may eventually remove this restriction, but there is no guarantee this will happen or even any indication to believe this will happen, especially if the strategy works.

For those who are not familiar with Dino Crisis, it released back in 1999 as a PS1 exclusive. From the creator (Shinji Mikami) and the Capcom team behind Resident Evil, it released to an 84 on Metacritic and to decent commercial success, both of which combined to spawn a series of the same name that spanned 1999 to 2003 across four releases.

“A covert mission to investigate an isolated research facility goes awry when a world-renowned scientist is found alive three years after his reported death,” reads an official blurb about the game for those unfamiliar with it. “Shockingly, he’s not the only thing back from the grave. Experience the thrill of survival against prehistoric threats in this horror classic!”

It has been 22 years since the last we saw Dino Crisis. For PlayStation to finally bring it back and make it one of the few PS Plus Premium PS1 games locked behind the subscription service is a decision that has not sat well with many PlayStation fans. Right now though, it appears to be a decision it is sticking to.

While Microsoft has long supported PlayStation and Nintendo with games like Minecraft, this year saw the company make a bigger push to release Xbox games on competing platforms. In his annual shareholder letter, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella brought up that push, while also speaking broadly about the company’s vision for the Xbox brand. Nadella’s vision is to allow greater access to these Xbox brands, and that’s clearly seen as important following the acquisition of Activision Blizzard. Nadella does not offer any specific information about which games could make the jump from Xbox to PlayStation or Nintendo, but clearly there’s a plan beyond the current offerings.

“We are bringing great games to more people on more devices. With our acquisition of Activision Blizzard King, which closed October 2023, we’ve added hundreds of millions of players to our ecosystem. We now have 20 franchises that have generated over $1 billion in lifetime revenue—from Candy CrushDiablo, and Halo, to WarcraftElder Scrolls, and Gears of War. And with Xbox cloud gaming, we continue to innovate to offer players more ways to experience the games they love—where, when, and how they want. Finally, we brought four of our fan-favorite titles to Nintendo Switch and Sony PlayStation for the first time, as we continue to extend our content to new platforms,” writes Nadella.

The four games that Nadella refers to are Pentiment, Grounded, Sea of Thieves, and Hi-Fi Rush. All four of those games were released on PlayStation, while the first two were released on Switch. Nintendo has a more powerful console rumored to release in 2025, and it’s possible we could see Sea of Thieves brought over to the so-called “Switch 2.” The Rare developed game has seen a lot of success on PS5, and would seem like a logical choice to bring over. There were a plethora of rumors about Hi-Fi Rush coming to a Nintendo console, but Microsoft no longer owns the property. As such, that decision might rest in the hands of the game’s current owner, Krafton.

RELATED: Krafton Purchases Tango Gameworks and Hi-Fi Rush IP

In addition to those games, we know that Indiana Jones and the Great Circle will be coming to PlayStation 5 in 2025. It’s possible that game could also land on Switch 2, but we might have to wait for Nintendo’s official announcement before Microsoft reveals its plans. Beyond that is anyone’s guess, but Microsoft has no shortage of great games it could introduce to new audiences. Franchises like Halo, Gears of War, and Forza have remained exclusive to Xbox, and there’s been debate about whether Microsoft is willing to bring them to other platforms. On one hand, fans are worried about what this could do to long term interest in Xbox consoles, but it could result in a lot more players discovering these franchises.

What Xbox games would you like to see ported to PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch? Do you think this strategy is a good one on Nadella’s part? Share your thoughts with me directly on Twitter at @Marcdachamp, on Bluesky at @Marcdachamp, or on Instagram at @Dachampgaming!

Helldivers 2 has another new Warbond on the way with more items to unlock in it, sure, but sooner than that, Helldivers 2 players are getting a free weapon and armor set for doing nothing at all. Arrowhead Game Studios announced this week a celebration of Liberty Day, the in-universe day where all Helldivers thank Super Earth and remember how lucky they are to live in a time of Managed Democracy. Best of all, there’s no real Major Order to complete this time or stakes to manage because every Helldivers 2 player will get the weapon and armor for free this weekend.

The weapon in question is the R-2124 Constitution, a bolt-action rifle with a bayonet attached that’s modeled to look like the classic Springfield rifle. The armor set is the DP-00 Tactical Armor which looks like a classic Helldivers armor without too many flashy parts to it. We don’t yet know what the stats are for the R-2124 Constitution nor do we know of the DP-00 Tactical Armor’s perks, but we’ll know soon since those both are set to be given out on October 27th.

That’s according to Arrowhead Game Studios which put out the video below to show what these new Helldivers 2 freebies look like in-game.

“In accordance with the signing of the Liberty Day Pact, all Helldivers will spend 24 hours in contemplation of freedom and Managed Democracy,” a Today, spread these principles throughout the galaxy as you see fit, Helldivers. As a gift to our elite soldiers, in celebration of your enduring commitment to liberating the galaxy, we are providing you with the R-2124 Constitution and DP-00 Tactical Armor.”

There’s a Major Order attached to this event as well, but instead of threatening players with choices between objectives and forcing mines on them, this Major Order just asks Helldivers 2 players to “Celebrate Liberty Day by fighting for Freedom wherever and however you elect.” So you can guy fight the bots, or you can go fight the bugs, but you’ll get the free DP-00 Tactical Armor and R-2124 Constitution once the Major Order concludes regardless. It was also confirmed within the game’s Discord that you don’t even have to log into Helldivers 2 to play in order to get the free armor and weapon, so next time you’re on, you should see them added.

helldivers 2 players get a new weapon and armor set for free.

Liberty Day was something that was celebrated in the original Helldivers game each year on October 26th, but given Helldivers 2‘s February 2024 release, this is the first Liberty Day that those players have gotten. The free weapon and armor in Helldivers 2 were both announced on Friday, so it’s unknown if there will be anything else to the Liberty Day celebrations today on the actual “holiday” itself.

Beyond this new weapon and armor set, Helldivers 2 players still have plenty of new content to look forward to later this month. That’s because the Helldivers 2 Warbond called “Truth Enforcers” will release on October 31st. It comes with new weapons like the SG-20 Halt and the SMG-32 Reprimand as well as armor sets like the UF-16 Inspector and UF-50 Bloodhound.

PlayStation fans on Reddit and elsewhere are not happy after Sony, in explicable fashion, removed a handy feature from PS5 consoles via a recent software update. The PS5 has been on the market for four years, and over these four years Sony has upgraded the console through numerous software updates. Rarely do software updates remove anything from the console though, but it looks like that is what happened in a recent software update.

More specifically, in a recent update PlayStation removed the “Resume Activity” feature from PS5 consoles without saying anything. This isn’t a huge feature, but it is a handy one and its removal, despite not being publicized, has not gone unnoticed among players who, as you would expect, are not happy with the strange decision from Sony.

“I don’t understand for the life of me why you would just randomly remove a quality of life feature that was already there, there’s just no good reason to do so,” writes on Reddit user of the news. “Why are they going only backwards? A feature like that is a must nowadays,” adds a second Reddit user.

Some PS5 users have suggested the feature was removed because it had some issues, namely sometimes it didn’t work. To this end, it is possible Sony removed it until it can be implemented without issues, but this explanation, while possible, seems unlikely. If this was the case, Sony would have likely communicated as much.

Meanwhile, a developer suggests it is because to support the feature — which lets PS5 users jump straight back into the game, bypassing the menu — is a nightmare for developers to implement. To this end, if the feature wasn’t being used very much, Sony may have removed it with its development partners in mind. That said, considering it previously required all games support the feature it is difficult to imagine it completely backtracked to the point of simply removing it altogether.

Unfortunately, right now all we have is speculation. PlayStation has not said a peep about the feature being removed. Currently, we don’t suspect this to change for a variety of reasons, but if it does, we will be sure to update the story accordingly. In the meantime, for more coverage on the PlayStation 5 — including all of the latest PS5 news, all of the latest PS5 rumors and leaks, and all of the latest PS5 deals — click here.

Bloober Team is fresh off the heels of the Silent Hill 2 remake, but their next game is already barreling down the pipeline. Cronos: The New Dawn is a survival-horror game that tasks players with going back in time and braving an apocalyptic landscape in order to bring victims of the past into a brighter future.

The game’s Steam page gives a brief overview of the specifics. Our main character is equipped with a tool called the Harvester, and they’re in charge of tackling the spooky stuff head on.

“You are a Traveler acting as an agent for the enigmatic Collective, tasked with scouring the wastelands of the future in search of specific time rifts that will transport you back to 1980s-era Poland,” the description reads. “Your mission is to locate key people from the past who perished in the ensuing apocalypse. Using your all-powerful Harvester, you can extract their Essences and have them accompany you into the future.”

Cronos: The New Dawn’s monsters are works of nightmarish art.

Little more is known about the game, but one rumor has picked up a lot of traction, and if it’s to be believed, players may be in for a properly punishing experience.

“The game is quite challenging, especially during combat and exploring,” alleged insider ignusthewise posted. “The core loop is Future Exploration: Find time anomalies to come back to the past[.] Past Exploration: Dive into the past to look for ‘souls'[.] 17 main locations[.]”

This all aligns with Bloober Team’s own description of the game’s mechanics. “Set in a grim world where Eastern European brutalism meets retro-futurist technology, Cronos: The New Dawn lets you experience a gripping story that straddles the line between past and future.”

The listing goes on to say the game is set “in a desolate world filled with ever-present danger” and that being resourceful is the name of the game.

“Your survival hinges on your ability to strategize and plan ahead. The enemies you’ll encounter are nightmarish creatures, born from the remnants of humanity – defeating them will require you to make full use of your arsenal. During battle, quick decisions can mean the difference between life and death.”

Describing the combat as “challenging” isn’t much of a shock. Cronos‘ official reveal trailer gave us a peek at some truly horrific creatures, and if they’re as nasty to fight as they are to look at, they’ll fight right in alongside other menaces from the same genre, like Dead Space’s savage Necromorphs.

All in all, there are still questions to be answered about the game, but this may be our best look at new details for a while given a release date has yet to be set. Silent Hill 2 has also achieved tremendous success, so there’s no telling if supporting that game will interfere with the development progress.

However, we do know Cronos: The New Dawn will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S when it touches down in the future. So, if getting scared out of your pants sounds like a good time, you’ll want to keep your eyes peeled for updates on this one.

The Black Ops series has captivated audiences for years, delivering thrilling stories over more than a decade of game releases. Whether or not each individual entry hits the mark, Treyarch aims for the moon with each and every release, always trying to produce a more compelling story time and time again.

Early fan reviews suggest the iconic developer has outdone itself this time. Heaps of praise have been thrown around so far. In fact, one particular late-game mission has been credited for elevating the Black Ops 6 campaign into an new stratosphere entirely.

The mission is called Emergence, and it’s unlike anything else in Call of Duty. Without pulling back any of its secrets, we’ll just say the story switches tone, takes a big swing, and delivers an absolute sucker punch in the player’s direction.

This is the kind of thing you want to play for yourself, so there’s no spoilers ahead, just a brief look at the kind of praise this mission is drawing in the wee hours after release.

Set in a facility somewhere in the rolling hillsides of Eastern Kentucky, Emergence is a one-of-a-kind Call of Duty experience.

“Just finished what I consider to be the best Call of Duty campaign mission of all time,” ModernWarzone tweeted. “You’ll know which mission I’m talking about when you get there and you’ll definitely want to experience it for yourself. Bravo [,] Raven Software. “Emergence” is your best work yet.”

“No spoilers but man is it phenomenal. I recommend the campaign solely for that mission alone. Campaign was fantastic. The entire dev team deserves their flowers for that mission alone,” one Reddit user said.

Another fan gassed up the campaign as a whole, but also cited Emergence as the highlight point of the experience. “This is a Top 3 COD campaign. Case is a Top 3 protagonist. Emergence is the best COD Mission of all time! In Treyarch we trust.”

Hype has started to spread elsewhere on the internet too, with more than one Reddit user warning fans that they’re “not ready” for what lies ahead of them in this level, and many similar threads popping up by the minute.

This kind of success is a timely arrival for Call of Duty fans. Modern Warfare 3 (2023)’s Campaign faced massive criticism on release, both for being far too short for a standard Call of Duty experience, but also for switching to a Warzone-inspired open combat system for much of its runtime.

In that way, Black Ops 6 is a step back into Call of Duty tradition. Missions are once again a carefully guided experience, allowing players to creatively solve their problems, but without the open-world elements which plagued MW3‘s reception. This is what allows Emergence to shine. Treyarch retains control of the pacing all the way through. Each twist and turn is carefully calculated, and you can feel it every second you’re in the game.

If you’ve been considering skipping out on the Campaign this year, maybe this is your sign to give it a chance. If nothing else, you’ll get to experience perhaps the most memorable Call of Duty mission since Modern Warfare (2007)’s ‘All Ghillied Up’.

A 1997 PS1 game is set to return this year, and when it does, it will be upgraded for the PS5 Pro. Back in 1997, on the PS1, PlayStation gamers were likely busy with the likes of Final Fantasy 7, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, Crash Bandicoot 2, Gran Turismo, Grand Theft Auto, Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee, Mega Man Legends, Tomb Raider 2, and a variety of other noteworthy games in what was a stacked year for gaming.

In 1997, on PS1, the big 3D platformer was obviously Crash Bandicoot 2, however, it was not the only 3D platformer. There was also cult classic, Croc: Legend of the Gobbos. And unlike Crash Bandicoot 2, it is returning this year with a remaster, which you can read more about here.

The remaster of Croc: Legend of the Gobbos is coming to Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S, and Xbox Series X sometime this year. When exactly we don’t know, but when it does it will come with “enhancements” for the PS5 Pro, which itself is set to release on November 7. What these enhancements will be remains to be seen, but this will presumably be the definitive place to play the PS1 classic not just on PlayStation, but any platform.

If this is your first time hearing about Croc: Legend of the Gobbos, it came out in 1997, as a PS1 exclusive, via Argonaut Software, which liquidated in 2004, but has been revived in 2024 to deliver this remaster. At the time of its original release, Croc: Legend of the Gobbos failed to live up to the 3D platforming classics of this time, but it did do appreciably, as evident by its 79 on Metacritic.

“Croc: Legend of the Gobbos follows the heartwarming journey of an endearing, humble little crocodile equipped with only his iconic backpack and a wiggly butt as he sets off on his quest to rescue the Gobbos from the clutches of the nefarious Baron Dante and his hordes of Dantinis,” reads an official blurb about the remaster, courtesy of developer Argonauts, for those unfamiliar with it. “Croc must platform his way across a series of unique worlds by running, jumping, climbing, swimming, and tail spinning to save the Gobbos from captivity.”

PlayStation Plus subscribers have been surprised with an additional perk of their membership to wrap up the month of October. Outside of granting PlayStation users the ability to play games online, the other primary benefit of PS Plus is the free games for PS5 and PS4 that Sony hands out each month. While those subscribed to PS Plus Extra and PS Plus Premium have the ability to also play an extensive slate of titles that belong to the PlayStation Game Catalog, this is more or less the extent of what PS Plus has to offer. For those looking to find even more value in their subscription, though, a new benefit will be arriving next week thanks to a deal that PlayStation has landed with one major publisher.

Announced this week, Capcom revealed that it will soon be holding its first open beta for Monster Hunter Wilds soon. Set to release in 2025, the sequel to Monster Hunter World is arguably one of the biggest titles set to launch in the first half of the coming year. Prior to its arrival in February, though, Capcom will be putting MH Wilds through its paces with a beta that will take place across PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC to close out October.

So what does this have to do with PlayStation Plus? Well, Capcom unveiled that those with a PS Plus membership will be the first to gain access to the Monster Hunter Wilds beta. Specifically, the open beta for everyone is set to begin next week on October 31st and will run until November 3rd. For PS Plus subscribers at any tier, though, they’ll be able to start playing the beta on October 28th. This early access phase will then last until the evening of October 30th at which point the beta will go offline and return the following day.

While this likely isn’t going to convince millions upon millions of people to join PS Plus who may have not already been subscribed, it’s still a cool collab between PlayStation and Capcom that adds more value to one’s membership. It also allows you to check out Monster Hunter Wilds for free to see if you’d even be interested in playing it once it launches on February 27, 2025.

To that end, if you’d like to learn more about the latest entry in the Monster Hunter series, you can check out its most recent trailer and official description courtesy of the PS Store attached below.

Monster Hunter Wilds

“The unbridled force of nature runs wild and relentless, with environments transforming drastically from one moment to the next. This is a story of monsters and humans and their struggles to live in harmony in a world of duality.

Fulfill your duty as a Hunter by tracking and defeating powerful monsters and forging strong new weapons and armor from the materials you harvest from your hunt as you uncover the connection between the people of the Forbidden Lands and the locales they inhabit. The ultimate hunting experience awaits you in Monster Hunter Wilds.

  • Story: A few years past, a young boy named Nata was rescued at the border of the Forbidden Lands, an unexplored region the guild has yet to survey. After hearing the boy’s tale of his lone escape from a mysterious monster that attacked his village, the Guild organized an expedition into the Forbidden Lands to investigate.
  • A Living World: Environments within the Forbidden Lands can drastically change as the weather shifts constantly and suddenly. During the harsh Fallow and perilous Inclemency periods, ravenous monsters will venture out to hunt in packs, yet during the Plenty periods, wildlife is rich and abundant.
  • Monsters: The monsters who inhabit these environments have been forced to adapt to the dynamic changes that occur, using their unique characteristics to survive and thrive.
  • Hunting: As the world around them changes, so must the hunters and their tactics. Not only will hunters have a multitude of weapons and armor to choose from, but the art of the hunt itself has evolved as hunters learn to anticipate monsters’ behavior and familiarize themselves with their environment.
  • Characters: From hunting partners to fellow expedition members, you’ll encounter plenty of those who will support you on your journey.”

PlayStation Stars, the membership service from Sony that allows users to rack up points that can then be used on digital goods and gift cards for the PlayStation store, has now become considerably worse. Since its introduction a few years back, PlayStation Stars has divided PS5 and PS4 users. While many have appreciated getting any sort of “free” rewards for their purchases on the PlayStation Store, PS Stars has also had some big issues, especially throughout 2024. Now, the service has received a notable downgrade that will make it even more difficult to earn points in the future.

As of today, Sony sent out an email to all PlayStation Stars members informing them of changes to the platform that will be coming. The first such change will begin today, October 24th, and will see any points that have been earned on PS Stars expiring after a period of 12 months. Any points earned prior to this date “will continue to expire at the end of the month plus 24 months from the date on which they appear in your PlayStation Stars account balance.”

Perhaps the most upsetting change to PS Stars, though, is that Sony will no longer count subscription charges toward the points that can be earned on the service. While subscriptions like PlayStation Plus previously gave users rewards points for PS Stars, this is now being excluded. The only silver lining to this alteration is that it won’t kick in until March 1, 2025, which means that PlayStation Stars members can still get points from their subscriptions for a few more months.

PlayStation Stars Members Are Frustrated

playstation-money-logo.png

As expected, with no positive changes being made to PlayStation Stars for its members, many who use the service regularly are not upset. On the official PS5 subreddit, hordes of PS Stars users have been airing their grievances with Sony over this update. Many have expressed that PS Stars is now essentially useless and has become far too difficult to earn points. Meanwhile, others have noted that this is merely Sony following a larger trend of other companies that have done away with their rewards programs.

“Yeah. Totally diminished any amount that I cared about this system,” said u/ToothlessFTW. “Oh well, it was fun while it lasted. I used subscription points to buy the Bloodborne DLC.”

“Keep on squeezing, Sony,” added u/NotSoWishful. “Get every penny, every nickel you can out of your customers. I’m sure it’ll never backfire.”

On Sony’s part, the strangest thing is that the corporation hasn’t provided any sort of explanation for why this tweak was made to PS Stars in the first place. If points could’ve been earned in a larger quantity when completing campaigns or making purchases on the PS Store, perhaps many would have accepted this removal of points being earned for subscriptions. Instead, Sony simply seems content with lessening PS Stars for no reason, which is bizarre to see.

How do you feel about this overhaul to PlayStation Stars? Are you going to continue using the service for yourself, or are you instead now choosing to ignore it? Be sure to let me know your own thoughts over on X at @MooreMan12.

We’re near the dawn of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, and Treyarch has swung through with a boatload of updates to improve the game. Many of these changes were directly inspired by player feedback from the open beta hosted back in August, and with just a few days left until release, we now know what to expect before jumping in.

The high points of the day-one patch are aim assist adjustments and map design changes. Three of the beta maps – Scud, Skyline, and Rewind – received cover improvements, making them more survivable and player-friendly. Additionally, aim assist at close-range has been re-enabled (albeit with a gradual curve), with the developers promising to carefully monitor close-range fight data.

Keep in mind, only a portion of the game was playable during the beta, so more adjustments to the maps we haven’t touched down on yet could certainly be coming over the next few weeks.

You can read the full notes attached below.

Weapon Balance

While many weapon balance changes have been implemented across the board since Beta, we consider launch to be our day 1 baseline across the entire arsenal. Weapon balance is always ongoing, so we’ll be evaluating data and feedback, and sharing updates on this regularly.

  • In the Multiplayer Beta we tested a change that disabled aim assist at close ranges. While this was a change in the right direction, we felt that this was a bit jarring when crossing that close range threshold, so we’ve adjusted our approach to linearly interpolate aim assist strength. This means that aim assist will be much weaker at point blank ranges and smoothly increase in strength out to a short range. We will of course continue to monitor and assess data and player feedback.
  • Improved Pistol and Dedicated Melee swap speeds
  • Slight increase to Weapon Butt melee attack speeds
  • Adjustments to sway, bob and overall weapon motions to improve point of aim when entering ADS
    • Additional improvements coming in Season 01
  • Improved Depth of Field across all Weapons

Movement

  • Added a toggle option for Corner Slicing
  • Added an option to set the hold time to perform a Dive to Prone or Slide depending on your Slide/Dive Behavior setting
  • Added an Intelligent Movement option to set Mantle Assist Angle from tight, medium, or wide

Multiplayer Map Adjustments

Keen eyes have already noticed a handful of changes we have introduced to our Beta maps thanks to everyone’s amazing feedback. Delivering fair and consistent gameplay will always remain our goal, and as such we’ve introduced some additional cover and changes to make firefights a bit fairer, as well as various lighting changes. The below selects aren’t every change we have made, but they’ll help provide an idea of what to expect from Beta to Launch.

Skyline

  • Expanded the cover points around the hot tub at the center of the map.
  • Added new planters as cover near far spawn point.
  • Added multiple cover options throughout the map.

Scud

  • Adjusted bullet penetration values on the satellite dish panels to allow additional bullet penetration.
    • The concrete wall at the main overwatch is now broken out, which will allow more bullet penetration to make it slightly less powerful.
    • Panels are doubled up at the side overwatch to still amount a small amount of bullet penetration where there was previously none.
  • Made additional cover improvements throughout the map.

Rewind

  • Made cover improvements across multiple sightlines.

Audio

  • We’re excited to introduce our best-in-class audio experience coming to Black Ops 6 with the introduction of HRTF (Head-Related Transfer Function) via Universal Profile in Enhanced Headphone Mode, which is available to all players for free.
  • We’ve also added a setting to disable licensed music across all modes, particularly useful for content creators streaming the game.

This is the second round of patch notes for BO6, with a full set of adjustments happening during the beta. Weapon balancing took center stage back then, perfecting maps is a much more intensive process and likely needed some extra time in the oven before being ready for fans to enjoy.

Some of these changes, such as making the concrete wall on Scud easier to shoot through, will make a huge difference in the overall playability of the map. This is reflected two-fold with the new smatterings of cover. Anyone using an a Submachine Gun on Rewind was practically giving away their life. It’s still an Assault Rifle dominated map, but perhaps the experience won’t be quite so crushing after this round of touchups.

All in all, these improvements set a better standard ahead of that magical October 25 release date. That’s when things get real.

The long-awaited Match History feature is now live in Rocket League, and it brought a full Player Profile page to the game along with it. Players can now check their personal stats, highest rank, current Ranked matchmaking rating, and more with this new arrival.

Tracking personal statistics was previously only possible via third-party data-scraping apps. Now, all it takes is signing into a brand new Epic Games tool and letting them do all the hard work.

The Player Profile page assembles all kinds of data. First, there’s career stats. Every shot, goal, save, assist, win, and MVP award in a player’s career are all tracked here and will update accordingly with in-game performance. All of this information can be found on the left-hand side of the page under the Career tab. It’s worth mentioning only Online stats are tracked, meaning shots taken in offline game-modes will not be counted towards official stats.

The Rocket League Profile page, containing Season stats and Match History.

Next, there’s Seasonal tracking. This section only counts a players performance over the current season and the previous one, but it holds a ton of additional information – such as time played, shooting percentage, demos, Ranked season rewards and Rocket Pass progression.

This is also where players will find their Match History, which stores a record of every user’s most recent 20 games. There’s a 30-day time limit on the storage, which leaves plenty of time to hunt down results and review any useful match data before it gets purged from the system forever.

Under Match History, players can also control replay storage, saving in-game footage to their profile after getting out of a match. That means no more worrying about queuing a highlight to save while in the middle of a game or forgetting to download the replay before fast-quitting at the end.

As previously mentioned, Ranked fans have even more to celebrate. For those out of the loop, ranking up in Rocket League is tied to a players Matchmaking Rating (or MMR) – a hidden number which informs the game where someone belongs in terms of Ranked progress.

Every rank and tier (ex: Silver 1, Silver 2, etc.) is associated with a range of numbers within the MMR system. Generally, Bronze players have low MMR, and Supersonic Legends have high MMR.

Track your progress toward Rocket League’s Ranked rewards much easier with the Player Profile.

Tracking an individual’s MMR is crucial to knowing exactly how close they are to ranking up. Anyone hoping to make the climb from Bronze to SSL would be well-suited to know how many games they need to reach the promotional threshold.

This also makes calculating the average MMR differential after a win or loss much easier, helping players at every rank see the direct effect of each individual match. In theory, this will make Ranked a smoother experience, and eliminate any head-scratching over why a win-streak didn’t boost a team into the next rank.

Though regular content updates have gone over well with the core audience, Epic Games has previously been lambasted for making big changes to Rocket League. However, this one was truly years the making, and should benefit the player base as a whole.

A new PS5 system software update has today been pushed out by Sony. In recent months, Sony has made some big changes to the PS5 and what it offers users. The most notable firmware update of this type rolled out in September and introduced the Welcome Hub, which is a new area of the dashboard that allows PS5 owners to quickly get a look at their storage, trophies, and other aspects of their console. In addition, the Welcome Hub features customizable backgrounds, which is the closest that the PS5 has come to introducing themes. Now, a new patch for the latest PlayStation console has gone live, but it doesn’t do a whole lot.

Available to download right now, PS5 system software update version 24.07-10.20.00 brings about a handful of improvements to the hardware. First and foremost, Sony has implemented the usual array of performance and stability upgrades, which is seen with just about every PS5 update. In additional, Sony says it has also “improved the messages and usability” of the PS5, but doesn’t provide further specifics about what these improvements look like.

The biggest element of this new PS5 update, though, is related to activities. Activities for PS5 games can now be designated as “In Progress”, “Not Started”, or “Completed” based on how a player has progressed through a specific game. Sony stresses that this won’t spoil any story elements of games, though, and is instead just meant to provide feedback for how players are advancing through a title. For those who like to know how close they might be to the end of a certain game, this feature is one that will definitely be appreciated and further evolves on how activities have operated on PS5 since they were introduced.

If you would like to learn more about this update directly from Sony, you can get a look at the full patch notes for today’s new PS5 system firmware attached below.

PS5 System Update 24.07-10.20.00 Patch Notes

  • Activities now display as In Progress, Not Started, or Completed, depending on whether you have ever started or completed the activity.
    • Potential spoilers will still be hidden.
  • We’ve improved system software performance and stability.
  • We’ve improved the messages and usability on some screens.

God of War TV Series Hires Battlestar Galactica Showrunner After Major Setback https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/god-of-war-tv-show-amazon-battlestar-galactica-showrunner-ronald-moore/ Wed, 23 Oct 2024 01:27:52 +0000 https://comicbook.com/?p=958847 god-of-war-kratos-blue.png

Amazon’s God of War TV series is getting a complete overhaul with a brand new showrunner at the helm. The God of War series is one of PlayStation’s most prized IP, having been one of the signature franchises during the PlayStation 2 and 3 generations before exploding even further toward the end of the PlayStation 4’s lifecycle. The series used to be far more focused on frenetic action and stories filled with blood lust, but matured in 2018 with a more cinematic soft-reboot that aimed to tell a more thoughtful, emotionally-charged story. It led to the series seeing critical acclaim and record-breaking sales, garnering over 23 million copies sold as of November 2022.

Naturally, it made sense for PlayStation to look at God of War as a series it should adapt outside of gaming. It was confirmed in 2022 that a TV series based on the acclaimed gaming franchise would move forward at Amazon and it would be led by The Wheel of Time showrunner Rafe Judkins. Unfortunately, it was reported earlier this week that the God of War TV show had lost Judkins along with its producers and would be starting over from scratch. It’s not entirely clear why this change was made, but it does seem clear that Sony and/or Amazon wants to go in a totally different direction with new creatives. As such, Deadline has reported that Battlestar Galactica showrunner and Star Trek: The Next Generation producer Ronald D. Moore will be taking over as the showrunner on God of War’s TV adaptation.

As of right now, it’s unclear what Moore’s take will be and how it will differ from the work Judkins is doing. Deadline previously reported that multiple scripts for the God of War series had been completed over the course of the last 2 and a half years, so this is a massive reset. The series is still being executive produced by God of War (2018) director Cory Barlog, a creative that was an instrumental part in the tonal and stylistic changes for the soft-reboot the video games underwent.

Kratos fights Thor in God of War: Ragnarok.

Ultimately, this may all turn out to be a good choice. Fans will never probably know what could’ve been with a Rafe Judkins-led God of War TV show, but it seems unlikely that Sony and Amazon would pull the cord on something this deep into development and order a total reboot if it wasn’t for good reason. PlayStation Productions has had a number of hits already with Twisted Metal, Gran Turismo, and of course, The Last of Us. Not only would it be bad for this streak to get messed up in general, but it would be absolutely dismal for it to happen with a flagship franchise like God of War.

It’s currently unknown whether the God of War TV series will be starting at the beginning of Kratos’ story which is rooted in Greek mythology or if it will begin with him already engrained in Norse mythology, which is where the more recent games take place and is likely what current fans are most familiar with. It had been previously speculated that the series could utilize flashbacks to fill in the important bits of Kratos’ past, but it’s unclear. While newcomers can enjoy God of War (2018) without playing the original trilogy, those who know Kratos’ whole story get a lot more out of the experience. That may be even more important for a TV series made for people who don’t know the games exist.

It will likely be a few years before the God of War TV series begins to take shape, but it’s possible Moore will borrow pieces from the previous version of the show to utilize as a foundation for this one. The show still hasn’t cast its Kratos, but actor Dave Bautista has expressed interest in playing the gaming icon.

Call of Duty: Warzone has stayed near the top of the battle royale scene ever since it arrived in 2020. The juggernaut spinoff of an already gargantuan franchise has consistently pulled players in over the course of the last four years, annually adding a fresh spin on things with each Call of Duty release.

Every year, players are treated with a reimagining of the game. Whether playing on a new map like Modern Warfare 3’s Urzikstan or using a new movement system like Black Ops 6’s Omnimovement, annual innovations add a bit of spice to keep fans invested. It’s not always about innovation, though. Retaining the classic Call of Duty feel is also important to Raven Software, and nothing is more inherently-CoD than a mode-specific camo grind.

Activision’s annual Launch Comms blog revealed Warzone’s camo offerings will finally be catching up to its Multiplayer and Zombies sister modes. For the first time ever, there will be a unique camo track in the battle royale mode. MP Mastery camos were previously unlockable via Warzone, but this marks the first time in Call of Duty history players will have to complete an entire track of Warzone-related challenges

Abyss Mastery Camo brings a new flare to Warzone.

Where the other two modes have Dark Matter and Nebula as their respective final camos, Warzone’s top-of-the-line reward is called Abyss. This all-new blue look is similar in color to the whirring interior of a Pack-A-Punch machine, but is broken up in a fractured, stringy array of other colors.

Just like its siblings, players will have to complete every other challenge along the way to earn the big reward, but there will be a handful of other Mastery tiers to unlock along the way, giving camo grinders something to play for at each stage of their journey.

Here’s the full list of Warzone-specific camos:

  • Gold Tiger
  • King’s Ransom
  • Catalyst
  • Abyss

In another series first, all of the final Mastery camos this year are animated. Abyss, Dark Matter, and Nebula will all react to being fired, adding even more reason for players to brave the hundreds of hours of weapon challenges to collect them across all three modes.

There are four tiers of Weapon Camos to progress through in the Black Ops 6 era. Military Camos are your basic, run-of-the-mill offerings that should be familiar to any veteran player. These will be completed by racking up a target number of eliminations in Warzone. Hitting that number will unlock access to Gold Tiger camo for that individual weapon.

The second level is Special Camos. Just as the name suggests, these are unique to each weapon but will be related to that guns ideal playstyle. Completing all Tier 1 challenges for one Weapon Type will unlock King’s Ransom camo for the entire arsenal of weapons in that class.

Warzone’s Catalyst Camo, coming in Black Ops 6.

Next is Tier 3, which requires players to unlock King’s Ransom for all 33 launch weapons. This will trigger one more challenge gun-specific challenge, making it another individual unlock challenge.

Finally, Mastery Camos. These are the tip-top and will require the completion of all other challenges, and an additional round of Mastery level challenges. Braving through these for all 33 launch weapons again will unlock the precious Abyss reward.

There’s no doubt it will take a ton of work, but the developers have also lifted the restrictive requirements of past games. Now, players can get straight to work on their camo progress without having to worry about weapon level or anything else.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is just around the corner, and new information abounds. In the latest developer update, Treyarch pulled back the curtain on some of the incoming changes to the franchise. While fans have known the classic Prestige system is returning for the first time since Black Ops 4, we now have a much better look at the finer details and how the pieces all fit together.

The returning Prestige rewards system will highlight iconic figures and moments from the series, plumbing the depths of Black Ops’ lore to inspire Weapon Blueprints, Operator skins, Emblems, and more. Every Prestige tier brings a new set of unlocks with exclusive rewards, so anyone hoping to unlock them all will have to dig their heels in and prepare for a long, long grind.

Emblems have been the primary signifier of Prestige progress for years. They’re a semi-subtle way for players to show off their progress, adding a touch of flair to the unique calling card setup. It goes deeper than that this time around. All 10 Prestige levels will bring back a little piece of earlier Black Ops-timeline entries, and that’s only the start of things.

All original Prestige emblems in Call of Duty Black Ops 6 in one Graphic
Call of Duty Black Ops 6’s new Prestige emblems.

These throwbacks kickoff at Prestige 1 with the instant-unlock undead World War 2 soldier emblem. While not technically a Black Ops game, World at War is the origin point for that universe, and was also the first Call of Duty game to feature a version of the Zombies game mode. Other rewards from this era include the “Nacht Raider” Operator skin and the “Teddy is a Liar” C9 SMG Blueprint, which is a nod to a bit of infamous graffiti about Edward Richtofen.

Later Prestiges also include Operator skins inspired by Alex Mason and Victor Reznov from Black Ops 1, Raul Menendez from Black Ops 2, Battery from Black Ops 3, and a host of other characters. All of this concludes at Prestige Master, where those who complete the steep ten Prestige climb will earn the “Sitting Bull Reborn” Operator skin and “Classified Arsenal” AMES 85 Animated Blueprint, which are uniquely Black Ops 6-themed.

Additionally, players who make it all the way to Prestige Master will unlock an additional method of customization. Reaching level 100 unlocks Prestige 1 icons from across Call of Duty history. Choosing one of these will replace the Prestige Master emblem and change up how other players see your name bar. For example, a player at Prestige 1 could choose Black Ops 1’s Red X as their primary icon. This continues all the way down to Prestige 10 at Level 1000, giving each player more control over how to represent themselves.

This remix of old Prestige systems is all-new for Black Ops 6, which also features updates such as Omnimovement, the free-flowing movement mechanic that allows players to slide, dive, and sprint in all directions for the first time in Call of Duty history.

All of these items, and other traditional Black Ops features like Dark Ops Challenges, will be available to unlock at launch on October 25.

Guerrilla Games, the PlayStation studio behind the Killzone series, has seemingly shot down the notion that it will return to the first-person shooter franchise down the road. In recent years, Guerrilla has become synonymous with Horizon, primarily through Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West. Before it ever started working on Horizon, though, Guerrilla had primarily only released Killzone games across PS2, PS3, PSP, and PS4. Despite still having many fans of Killzone around the globe, though, many within Guerrilla don’t sound interested in returning to the property.

Speaking to The Washington Post, Guerrilla’s art director Roy Postma said that Killzone is a series that veterans of the company were “done with” by the time it turned the page to Horizon. Although Postma didn’t outright shoot down the idea of returning to Killzone, he indicated that Guerrilla continues to be more excited by the themes and narratives of its Horizon games. It was also noted that Horizon is much more for all ages in comparison to Killzone, which was more mature and dark in its tone.

“We were done with it as a team,” said Postma of Killzone. “As a studio, we needed to refresh the palette. It was, by choice, the opposite of Killzone. I think the themes that this story and the characters represent are relatable for all ages and people, like having a found family of friends and finding your place in the world.”

If there is hope for a Killzone revival, it would now seemingly lie with another company working on the IP. Historically, PlayStation has chosen to outsource its own exclusives to developers outside of its studio structure on a handful of occasions over the years. Titles like Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time, God of War: Chains of Olympus, and Sackboy: A Big Adventure all came about from studios that don’t belong to PlayStation Studios. As such, if those in charge at Sony really did want to do something new with Killzone, perhaps it could strike a deal with a developer that is eager to work on the series.

Until that happens, though, it sounds as though Killzone will remain on ice with 2013’s Killzone: Shadowfall continuing to be the most recent entry in the franchise. In the near term, Guerrilla is gearing up to release LEGO Horizon Adventures, which will launch across PS5, Nintendo Switch, and PC on November 14th.

A PS3-era game has returned with a new release on PS5, and for some PlayStation fans, the PS5 re-release is free to download. The PlayStation game in question hails specifically from 2012. Those that were around and playing video games in the year the world was supposed to end according to the Maya Calendar, will remember releases such as Mass Effect 3, Far Cry 3, XCOM: Enemy Unknown, The Walking Dead from Telltale Games, Dishonored, Borderlands 2, Journey, Mark of the Ninja, Fire Emblem Awakening, New Super Mario Bros. 2, Hitman: Absolution, Max Payne 3, Fez, Persona 4 Golden, Sleeping Dogs, Halo 4, Assassin’s Creed 3, Dragon’s Dogma, Need For Speed: Most Wanted, Spec Ops: The Line, Hotline Miami, and of course Call of Duty Black Ops 2.

These are the biggest and/or best games of 2012, but it is just the tip of the iceberg in terms of releases. There were plenty more video games released in 2012. Leading this pack of games is no doubt Darksiders 2. At the time of its release, the sequel to 2010’s Darksiders was notably one of the most expensive games ever made. Its $50 million budget is humble and nothing compared to the hundreds of millions often spent on AAA game development, however, at the time it was a lot.

Unfortunately, for developer Vigil Games and publisher THQ, it didn’t quite deliver on the game’s lofty ambitions. It sold appreciably and returned on Metacritic with a solid 84, but both were a little low considering the game’s budget. Nonetheless, it did well enough to get a follow up, Darksiders 3, in 2018.

It is not this original PS3, 2012 version that has returned with a new release on PS5, but the PS4 version of the game that was released in 2015 under the name Darksiders II: Deathinitive Edition. Those that don’t own this PS4 version, will need to fork over $30 to buy the game on PS5. Those who do own the PS4 version though are getting this new PS5 release for free.

What does the new PS5 version come with? Well, according to THQ Nodric, it adds to the game 4K resolution, ray tracing, enhanced shadows and lighting, quicker load times, and haptic feedback for the DualSense to take advantage of.

The first PS5 Black Friday deals have leaked early, giving PlayStation fans an idea of what to expect from Sony next month. Unfortunately, none of the leaked deals include PS5 Pro, which is set to release on November 7. In other words, it will release in time for it to be included in Black Friday deals, but whether it will be included, remains to be seen. If there are PS5 Pro Black Friday deals, it will probably come from retailers like Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart, GameStop, or Target rather than Sony itself, but for now nothing has even leaked for PS5 Pro. A couple Black Friday bundles for the PS5 have though.

As for the leak, it comes the way of billbil-kun, one of the most reliable leakers in the industry, especially when it comes to PlayStation. In other words, there is little to doubt the validity of the leak, but at the moment, it is a leak. This means everything below should be taken with a grain of salt.

According to the leak, Sony is preparing two PS5 bundles. One of these bundles include the disc version of the PS5, the other the digital version of the PS5. The former is set to priced at $374.99, while the latter $424.99. These bundles are set to be made available on November 22, and be available well through Cyber Monday. After this, the pair will revert to $449.99 and $499.99, respectively.

What do the bundles include? Well, they appear to be targeted at Fortnite fans because both will include the Fortnite Cobalt Star bundle, which includes eight exclusive Fortnite skins that won’t be available in any other capacity. The value of these skins is said to be 5,000 V-Bucks. On top of this, buyers will get 1,000 V-Bucks to spend how they seem fit.

PlayStation still making Fortnite PS5 bundles suggests there are many Fortnite players still on PS4 it is looking to tempt to PS5, otherwise you probably wouldn’t be making these bundles and would rather pair new releases with PS5 consoles. And these options will probably exist as well, but it is clear PlayStation is targeting Fortnite players this holiday season, assuming this leak is true at least.

Marvel’s Wolverine has been basically nonexistent in the news cycle ever since PlayStation-owned developer Insomniac Games announced it over three years ago, but the drought of information may be ending soon. According to an insider who claims to have knowledge of the situation, PlayStation may be “gearing up” to show off more of Marvel’s Wolverine by the end of the year. It’s unclear, however, what event might host a Marvel’s Wolverine appearance and whether or not it’ll be a PlayStation event like a State of Play or a third-party event like The Game Awards.

Twitter user Kurakasis is the insider responsible for this new Marvel’s Wolverine tease, a leaker who’s got a pretty good track record as far as leaks go, particularly when it comes to PlayStation projects. Kurakasis said over on Twitter that the prediction of Marvel’s Wolverine making an appearance soon is a result of a “little digging.”

“From my little digging, it looks like Sony is gearing up to show off some new stuff from Marvel’s Wolverine,” the insider said. “It’s hard for me to determine when it’ll happen, but I’m guessing it’ll be this year—either at TGA or at some unannounced, super-secret event.”

One of the only looks we’ve gotten at Marvel’s Wolverine.

So, when might Marvel’s Wolverine make an appearance if it is to be shown off again by the end of the year? Going three whole years without seeing anything from the game would feel pretty bad for Wolverine fans and those who follow Insomniac Games no matter if it’s Spider-Man or something else they’re working on, so it doesn’t seem out of the question to expect an update this year. There is a Marvel Games “Special Presentation” planned for today during New York Comic-Con, though it’d be quite hopeful to expect something from that event.

Beyond this month, there’s speculation that PlayStation will hold at least one more State of Play this year — perhaps an event in December to cap off PlayStation’s 30th anniversary celebrations — but PlayStation of course hasn’t announced anything of the sort. If nothing else, there’s always The Game Awards which is returning in December, too, and could host a Marvel’s Wolverine trailer or announcement.

Since it was revealed Marvel’s Wolverine has consisted of exactly one teaser trailer released by PlayStation as well as two screenshots that show Wolverine from behind sitting at a bar and another shown above that has him with his iconic claws out. We don’t know who’s voicing him yet nor do we know how closely he’ll resemble his on-screen version played by Hugh Jackman, though one would expect he’d at least resemble Jackman a bit given that that’s the only portrayal of Wolverine most people are familiar with.

Leaks, however, are a different story. Marvel’s Wolverine was one of several games that leaked out early as a result of a hack targeting Insomniac Games. Gameplay clips and other looks at the game surfaced online, though most who saw those were in agreement that they probably didn’t accurately portray parts of the game since they were so early and unfinished. It’s possible those leaks may have played a part in us going so long without Marvel’s Wolverine news as well.

Marvel’s Wolverine is coming to the PlayStation 5 (not the PlayStation 4) but does not yet have a release date.

Sony has revealed that a whopping 18 PS5 and PS4 games will be taken off of PlayStation Plus in November 2024. As of today, PS Plus Extra and Premium subscribers have been given a slew of new titles on the Game Catalog to play. Some of the biggest additions on this front include Dead Island 2, Two Point Campus, Gris, and Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed, among many others. Of course, these new arrivals aren’t going to eventually come without some losses one month from now.

Spotted on the “Last Chance to Play” section of PS Plus today, a new group of 18 games has appeared. These 18 titles are all going to depart from PS Plus in the middle of November and include heavy-hitters like Red Dead Redemption 2, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas — Definitive Edition, The Sims 4: City Living, and nearly the entire Kingdom Hearts saga. This is one of the most extensive lineups we’ve seen depart from the PS Plus Game Catalog at a single time and, quality-wise, will definitely bring the service down just a bit.

Here’s the full list of games that will be departing PlayStation Plus next month:

  • Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas — Definitive Edition (PS5, PS4)
  • Red Dead Redemption II (PS4)
  • The Sims 4: City Living (PS4)
  • Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen (PS4)
  • Mobile Suit Gundam Extreme Vs. Maxiboost On (PS4)
  • Superliminal (PS5, PS4)
  • Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising (PS5, PS4)
  • Klonoa: Phantasy Reverie Series (PS5, PS4)
  • Teardown (PS5)
  • Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 Remix (PS4)
  • Kingdom Hearts 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue (PS4)
  • Kingdom Hearts 3 (PS4)
  • Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory (PS4)
  • Chorus (PS5, PS4)
  • What Remains of Edith Finch (PS5, PS4)
  • Overcooked 2 (PS4)
  • Blasphemous (PS4)
  • Moving Out (PS4)

As for the date on which all of these PS5 and PS4 games will be vanishing from PS Plus, they should be exiting on the same day that the service gets its new wave of Extra and Premium titles. Assuming that PlayStation continues with its standard operating procedure, this would indicate that all of these games will be gone on November 18th. With this in mind, you have from now until then to play any of these titles for yourself before they exit.

How do you feel about these upcoming PS Plus games that are soon leaving the Game Catalog? And will you look to play anything here before it’s gone? Let me know for yourself over on social media at @MooreMan12.

PlayStation has announced that it’s going on tour in a new concert series that will take place across 2025 and 2026. While some of PlayStation’s biggest franchises like God of War, The Last of Us, and Ghost of Tsushima are praised for their stories and gameplay, they also happen to each contain some memorable soundtracks that fans continue to adore. Now, PlayStation has put together a new live concert that will better highlight these songs in a way that has never been done before.

Detailed on the PlayStation Blog, Sony revealed that it has teamed up with RoadCo Entertainment, and GEA Live to create “a groundbreaking live music event” that will feature songs from a variety of PlayStation games. Outside of featuring music, PlayStation: The Concert is said to contain “state-of-the-art production” and “cutting-edge visuals” that will be shown in tandem with the music. To this point, only four PlayStation franchises have been confirmed to be featured in the concert series, most of which have been the brand’s most popular across the PS4 and PS5 generations.

“PlayStation: The Concert transports fans into the epic worlds of God of War, The Last of Us, Ghost of Tsushima, and Horizon franchises amongst many others that reflect our 30 years of making games that have not only captivated players but are celebrated for their breathtaking and immersive soundtracks too,” says PlayStation’s description of the event. “With innovative technology and world-class production, fans will experience a stunning fusion of multi-layered visuals, immersive surround sound, and an all-star ensemble blending classical and modern instruments. The legendary scores from composers like Gustavo Santaolalla (The Last of Us), Joris De Man (Horizon), Ilan Eshkeri (Ghost of Tsushima), and Bear McCreary (God of War) will reach new heights, offering fans a unique, deeply immersive live concert experience. “

As for the tour dates, PlayStation has announced that its new concert will debut in April 2025 in Dublin, Ireland. From here, the concert series will tour across Europe in cities that include London, Paris, Belgium, Berlin, Zurich, Prague, and Copenhagen, just to name a few. PlayStation plans to visit over 200 cities in total with this concert that will stretch through 2026.

For now, only European tour destinations have been announced, with the United States and other regions to follow at a later date. Tickets for these European dates will begin going on sale tomorrow, October 16th, at 7:00am PT. Those interested can learn more about how to purchase tickets at PlayStation’s official concert website right here.

A major retailer has started to cancel recent pre-orders that customers made for the PS5 30th Anniversary console. Near the end of September, Sony began selling its 30th Anniversary PS5 Slim, PS5 Pro bundle, PS Portal, and DualSense controllers via its PlayStation Direct website. This was followed by a wider release of the 30th Anniversary lineup (other than the PS5 Pro) at other retail chains around the globe. Now, one storefront in the UK has had to cancel a number of its own orders after a major issue with its sale of the hardware.

Within the past day, UK retailer Argos began canceling pre-orders for the PS5 Slim 30th Anniversary console. Upon going live this past week on October 10th, Argos quickly sold out of its stock of the highly-limited PS5. However, in the time since, some Argos customers have started to receive emails informing them that their orders have now been canceled. Argos itself revealed that the reason for this was because the storefront allotted more pre-orders to customers than stock it had of the PS5 30th Anniversary console. As a result, some orders had to be scrapped completely.

“We saw huge demand for the PlayStation 5 30th Anniversary Limited Edition console and unfortunately had to cancel some orders, after they were processed incorrectly,” a representative from Argos told IGN. “We have contacted the customers affected to tell them how sorry we are for the disappointment this has caused and confirm they will receive a full refund.”

This move is a particularly disappointing one given how exclusive the PS5 30th Anniversary console is. Based on what we currently know, there aren’t going to be any additional restocks or sales for the 30th Anniversary PS5 and its accessories in the weeks and months ahead. While Sony could always change its mind on this front given how high the demand has been, those who have lost their pre-orders at Argos might now not be able to get the PS5 Slim whatsoever.

What’s even worse is that many other retailers didn’t fare much better than Argos. While other storefronts haven’t had to resort to canceling PS5 orders outright, the purchasing process at chains like Walmart, Best Buy, and even PlayStation Direct was quite frustrating, to say the least. Hopefully, more opportunities to buy all of this PlayStation hardware will come in the future so that those who have been left out can have a chance to snag this 30th Anniversary collection for themselves.

PlayStation has removed a banned PS5 game — also available on PS4 — after it was accidentally permitted to release on the PlayStation Store. More than this, it has gone ahead and removed the PS5/PS4 game from the library of any PS5/PS4 user who purchased the game, providing refunds in the process. What is odd about the development is that it took months for this to happen. The game in question has been available for months, but Sony is only now getting around to removing any trace of the game from PSN. What took so long, is unclear.

Thankfully, if you are in the United States or many other regions of the world — where this PS5/PS4 game is available — you don’t have anything to worry about. The game has been not been completely banned from PSN, just banned from PSN in certain parts of the world. One of these parts of the world is Australia. Despite this, it has been available to purchase on Australian PSN for months. Not anymore though.

Any Australian PSN user who recently noticed that Hotline Miami 2 was no longer in their library, it is because it was never supposed to be there in the first place. And that is because it was never rated for release in Australia. This is because it was never submitted for rating in the region given the area’s reputation for restricting, limiting, and banning games that depict sexual content, content with drugs, or over-the-top violent content. Also because the Australian rating board previous restricted the game’s release on Nintendo Switch.

Hotline Miami 2 has all three of the content types above to the max. To this end, one scene, in particular, that depicts sexual assault caused quite the controversy when the game was originally released, and no doubt played a major role in its restriction/limiting/banning in certain parts of the world.

PlayStation has not offered any insight into how the game got on Australian PSN, but it is not the first game to squeak pass the certification team over at Sony. What it has done has begun to alert PS5 and PS4 users that had it in their library that it is now gone, with a refund in its place.

For those unfamiliar with Hotline Miami 2 — or Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number as it is fully titled — is a 2015 game and sequel to the popular 2012 game, Hotline Miami. It was developed by Dennaton Games and published by Devolver Digital.

PlayStation Plus members are going to want to make sure they don’t make a key error that could lock them out of a previous free game that was part of the service. Since Sony added the PS Plus Extra and Premium tiers back in 2022, there have been some major issues tied to licensing that users have started to come across. Namely, games that are part of both the Game Catalog associated with PS Plus Extra and have also been free monthly titles in the past can have their license permissions switched, which can result in subscribers losing access in certain situations. Now, this is in danger of happening once again with a PlayStation game that will soon be delisted.

Recently, PlayStation announced that it would be removing LittleBigPlanet 3 from sale later this month on the PS Store. The removal is set to happen on October 31st and follows a prolonged period in which the servers for LittleBigPlanet 3 have been down. Previously, LBP 3 was a monthly free game on PS Plus back in February 2017, which is likely how many PlayStation users added it to their own digital library. If you were one of these people, though, you’ll want to make sure you don’t lose access to the title once it’s delisted by ignoring the version on the Game Catalog.

In addition to being a monthly free game, LittleBigPlanet 3 has also been part of the PS Plus Game Catalog for quite some time. Compared to monthly free games, though, any titles that PS Plus users download through the Game Catalog are then looked upon as rentals rather than games that are outright owned. This means that once these games exit the PS Plus Game Catalog, which will be happening with LittleBigPlanet 3 this coming week, they’ll no longer be accessible.

The problem at the center of all of this is that any games downloaded via the Game Catalog can override previous licenses that PS Plus users might have already had. So if you already have the license of the the PS Plus version of LittleBigPlanet 3 that was up for grabs in February 2017, DO NOT try to download the iteration that’s listed on the Game Catalog. Doing so will completely alter the former license and you’ll see LittleBigPlanet 3 deleted from your PlayStation digital library in the weeks ahead.

Again, this is a confusing issue and it’s one that Sony hasn’t really drawn any attention to. Despite ongoing complaints from fans, it doesn’t look like any of the problems here will be resolved in the near future for one reason or another. As such, we’re simply trying to point out the issue so that you don’t lose the ability to play LittleBigPlanet 3 in the future.

PS5 AAA games are as cheap as $4.49 in a new PlayStation Store sale that is available for a limited time. Coupling this, also on the PlayStation Store, there are even more AAA PS4 games currently on sale for less than $10. These PS4 games do no have a native PS5 version, but they are playable on PS5 via backward compatibility.

The cheapest of the bunch is Metro Exodus, the latest installment in the long-running Metro series. Normally, on PS5, it costs $29.99, but right now it is only $4.49. Other games and series featured include: Mortal Kombat, Boderlands, Mass Effect, The Witcher, Yakuza, Star Wars, South Park, Tomb Raider, Lord of the Rings, Mafia, Assassin’s Creed, One Piece, Battlefield, Death Stranding, and Ghost Recon.

Some of these PS5 deals — and PS4 deals — are the cheapest said game has ever been available, not just on the PlayStation Store, but across any retailer. A rare discount of PlayStation Plus is being offered by Sony, but not to everyone. Since Sony raised the monthly cost of PS Plus Essential, PS Plus Extra, and PS Plus Premium in 2023, price drops for the service have basically been nonexistent. Part of this is due to the fact that many retailers that once sold PS Plus subscriptions as physical cards now no longer do so, which allows Sony to have more control over the service’s pricing. Fortunately, one new promotion is in swing for October 2024, but it’s seemingly happening at random for those in the PlayStation ecosystem.

Spotted on PlayStation’s official website, it is said that a new sale on PS Plus is happening from October 8th through October 22nd. The deal will allow users to subscribe to any tier of the platform at 20% off of its normal value. This discount can then be applied to any of the three or 12-month versions of PS Plus at the Essential, Extra, or Premium levels, which ends up being quite a deal for those looking to get in at the higher tiers.

The issue with this sale of PS Plus is that it’s not exactly clear who it’s being given to. The fine print at the bottom of the promotion says that it’s “by invite only,” which would suggest that Sony is emailing offers to those who qualify. This is something that Sony has done in the past with PS Plus and wouldn’t be shocking to see happen once again.

Still, how exactly one would qualify to receive an email like this isn’t explained. The PS Plus advertisement itself says that this sale is for those looking to “join PlayStation Plus by October 22”. The implication here is that any current PS Plus subscribers are disqualified as they’re already enrolled in the platform. This is a bummer as those who have been loyal to PlayStation and PS Plus are the ones you would think Sony would want to reward with a deal.

With so many questions surrounding this PlayStation Plus promotion, there’s very little that can be done to ensure you’ll be invited to take part. The best you can do is keep an eye on your email and see if Sony sends an offer your way in the coming days. And if you’re already a member, well, you seem to simply be out of luck this time. Hopefully, Sony can make its next PS Plus sale widely available to all PlayStation users.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Gameplay Shows Off Cut Feature: “Why Get Rid of This?” https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/marvel-spiderman-2-double-finisher-cut-feature/ Thu, 10 Oct 2024 14:18:13 +0000 https://comicbook.com/?p=953121 Marvel's Spider-Man 2 from Insomniac Games.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 from Insomniac Games.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has tons of different finishers for Peter Parker and Miles Morales to utilize depending on what kind of enemy they’re fighting, but based on what’s been seen in some new gameplay pieced together from unused code, it appears as though there was another finisher feature that didn’t make the cut. Spider-Man 2 players discovered recently that there was apparently at one point work being done so that Spider-Man could pull off double finishers to take out two enemies at once, but the feature never made the cut and isn’t present at all in the full game.

The Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 gameplay showing off double finishers made its way to the subreddit for PlayStation’s Spider-Man games with a brief clip showing Peter Parker taking on a couple of enemies. The usual prompt appears for Spider-Man to take down an enemy in a stylish way with a finisher, but instead of just slamming one baddie into the ground while everyone else watches, he takes on two at once and launches one into the other to remove them both from the fight.

After that double finisher, two more are shown off where Spider-Man kicks two assailants at the same time and then uses his webs to take down two more. It’s a small sample size to go off of, but between webs, kicks, and acrobatics, those three double finishers paint a decent picture of what could’ve been had the feature been added to the game.

Aside from the fact that the enemies look entirely unfinished, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 players pointed out that parts of the double finishers look a bit jittery which makes sense given that the feature was never fully implemented in the game. The consensus, however, was that this would’ve been a great feature to see added to the full game had it not been cut.

“Why get rid of this???” the most upvoted comment in the thread said.

It’s a fair question, but as others explained, having double finishers in the game would’ve led to many more variables involving where the enemies were placed. As we saw towards the end of the clip, enemies typically just prefer to run at Spider-Man unless they’re using ranged weapons of some kind, so getting them near him wouldn’t have been the issue. Different types of enemies be they normal grunts, heavier enemies, or agile ones often have different finishers associated with their unique types, however, so having two different types of foes up against one another might’ve made double finishers a bit more complicated.

Had Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 actually implemented this feature, it likely would’ve been something in the Spider-Man skill trees that players had to unlock before using it. Though it didn’t make the cut here, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 players were hopeful that it could be added in whatever Spider-Man game comes next from Insomniac Games.

Star Wars: Episode 1: Jedi Power Battles is getting new life with a re-release on Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S, and Xbox Series X on January 23, 2025. The new release is an enhanced version of the original 2000 Star Wars game of the same name.

For those that don’t know: Star Wars: Episode 1: Jedi Power Battles was released on the PS1, then the Sega Dreamcast and Game Boy Advance, back in 2000 via LucasArts. Upon release, it didn’t review that well, nor did it hang with some of the Star Wars commercial hits of this tine. Yet, Aspyr clearly thinks there is enough interest to re-release it because that is exactly what it is doing, making it the latest Star Wars re-release from the developer.

“Take back the Theed Palace in this fast and furious lightsaber action game,” reads an official blurb about the game. “You will have the power of the Force and your trusty lightsaber to help you ward off legions of battle droids, destroyer droids, assassins, and other creatures from Star Wars: The Phantom Menace.”

The game’s official description continues: “Play as Mace Windu, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Plo Koon, Adi Gallia, or Qui-Gon Jinn facing off against droids and other familiar foes from Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. Or, play as one of the previously locked characters such as Darth Maul, Captain Panaka, Queen Amidala, Ki-Adi Mundi, and the Battle Droid, now available from the start!”

The re-release will include two-player couch co-op and a new game plus mode. Meanwhile, players will have the option to use new, modern controls or use the classic controls.

A PlayStation 5 DualSense controller was recently used to perform surgery from a remote location. As we’ve seen on multiple occasions in the past, video game controllers can often be used for purposes other than playing games. This was perhaps most prominently seen this past year with the Titan submersible, which featured steering controls in the form of a Logitech PC controller. Now, PlayStation’s current gamepad of choice has been used in a much more complicated operation that was nearly 6,000 miles away.

Reported by Fox (via PlayStation Lifestyle) recently, surgeons in Zurich, Switzerland were able to use a PS5 controller to conduct an endoscopy on a pig that resided in Hong Kong. Those in Zurich were able to view the operation on a live video feed and use the PlayStation controller at hand to steer the endoscope. One version of this operation saw the surgeons using a PlayStation Move controller for the PS3, while others have been done with the PS5’s DualSense. As for the reason behind using a PlayStation controller, it’s said to give surgeons more “precise navigation”, especially when it comes to complex movements.

Likely the biggest issue with doing surgery in this manner is accounting for latency. Since the surgeons in Switzerland were so far away from where the surgery itself was being done, this test had to keep latency under 300 milliseconds. It’s said that this response time is equal to what would be expected in traditional surgery and would allow for quick adjustments to be made if needed.

Moving forward, it seems like this could become more of a routine thing that is done in the medical field. There are still numerous hurdles to account for with procedures like this and it doesn’t seem like it has reached the point where it would be done on a human patient. Still, in the years to come, it could be far more routine to see a PlayStation, Xbox, or any other video game controller used in a surgical manner like this.

Sony has revealed the latest round of PS5 games and PS4 games that will be coming to PlayStation Plus for October 2024. Currently, all PS Plus subscribers can snag WWE 2K24, Dead Space, and Doki Doki Literature Club Plus as part of October’s round of “free” titles for the month. Now, those who have the higher tiers of the PlayStation subscription service can expect an injection of 14 more games next week.

Rolling out on October 15th, the latest PlayStation Plus games for Extra and Premium members are headlined by Dead Island 2. Just released this past year, the long-awaited action title will be available for both PS5 and PS4 and is the biggest AAA game included. It will be joined by other titles like Gris, The Dark Pictures Anthology: The Devil in Me, Two Point Campus, and Ghost Recon Wildlands.

When it comes to the new PS Plus Classics that are joining for October, they feature a little bit of everything. The Last Clockwinder is being added to this tier for those who happen to own a PlayStation VR2 headset, while Dino Crisis will finally be joining PS Plus after having been announced for the service in Sony’s most recent State of Play. The big surprise this month is that of Siren, which is a PS2 game from the creators of the original Silent Hill. Siren was later followed by two sequels but has been on ice since 2008. As a result, perhaps this appearance of the original game on PS Plus could forbode something new happening with the franchise in the future.

You can get a look at the full lineup of new PS Plus games that are arriving soon below.

PlayStation Plus Extra Games

  • Dead Island 2 (PS5, PS4)
  • Two Point Campus (PS5, PS4)
  • The Dark Pictures Anthology: Devil in Me (PS5, PS4)
  • Gris (PS5, PS4)
  • Return to Monkey Island (PS5)
  • Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed (PS5, PS4)
  • Firefighting Simulator: The Squad (PS5, PS4)

PlayStation is preparing to remove one of its own exclusive games from sale on the PlayStation Store for reasons that haven’t been made clear. From time to time, various games get delisted from the PS Store, Steam, and other digital marketplaces. More often than not, these delistings happen as a result of licensing agreements that have since come to an end, resulting in games no longer being able to be sold. Titles like Minecraft: Story ModeDeadpoolMarvel Ultimate Alliance, and Transformers: War for Cybertron are just a few titles that have gone away in this manner previously. Now, PlayStation is set to make a move of its own in this regard, although its reason for doing so seems to be far different.

Announced in a post on social media today, PlayStation informed fans that  LittleBigPlanet 3 is set to be taken off of the PS Store at the end of October. Released back in 2014 across PS4 and PS3, LittleBigPlanet 3 is the most recent mainline entry in the famed platforming franchise. It was later followed by Sackboy: A Big Adventure, which happened to be more of a traditional 3D platformer when compared to the other LittleBigPlanet titles. In addition to delisting LittleBigPlanet 3 itself, PlayStation also warned that all of the game’s accompanying DLC will be vanishing as well. As for the purpose behind this move, a specific reason was not given.

“After 10 years of playing, creating, and sharing content in LittleBigPlanet 3, the game and our entire range of LittleBigPlanet DLC will be removed from the PlayStation Store on October 31, 2024,” PlayStation said. “Anyone that currently owns or purchases LittleBigPlanet 3 or any LittleBigPlanet DLC before it is delisted for sale, will still be able to access their purchased games and content after its removal.”

“This is a friendly heads-up that anyone in the community or any newcomers [who] still wish to own a digital copy of LittleBigPlanet 3 or any LittleBigPlanet DLC currently available for purchase – this is your last chance to do so!” the message continued. “Thank you for your continued support and understanding.”

Why Is LittleBigPlanet 3 Being Delisted?

littlebigplanet.jpg

The odd part of LittleBigPlanet 3 being taken off of the PlayStation Store is that seemingly has nothing to do with licensing. Since this is an exclusive game directly from PlayStation, it stands to reason that Sony could continue to sell it in perpetuity for as long as it wants. Instead, the delisting likely has more to do with recent issues tied to LBP 3 rather than anything associated with expired licenses.

Earlier this year, LittleBigPlanet 3’s servers were taken offline in an indefinite capacity. In doing so, this eliminated all of the game’s player-created content from being accessible. While some fans hoped that PlayStation would eventually find a solution to problems that had plagued the title, it looks like this won’t be happening as Sony is now just opting to remove LBP 3 from sale as a whole.

This move is particularly heartbreaking as LittleBigPlanet 3 also encompassed all user-created levels that were built on the first two entries in the series as well. By refusing to get the servers back up and running, Sony is essentially killing off one of its most beloved games from the PS3 era. It’s also yet another blow to developer Media Molecule, which pulled the plug on ongoing content for Dreams in 2023.

Even though LittleBigPlanet 3 doesn’t feature any online levels to play, there still is a number of Story Mode levels that can be played either solo or with a friend in couch co-op. This combined with the game’s creation tools still being accessible means that stages can still be built in LittleBigPlanet 3, they’ll just never be uploaded to the internet.

A new, free PlayStation Plus game, with a controversial past has left many PS Plus subscribers across PS4 and PS5 shocked. Video games rarely find themselves at the center of controversy anymore. There was a time where both violent video games, and video games with sexual content, would cause quite the stir, attracting attention from concerned parents, the mainstream media, and even the government. This doesn’t really happen anymore, not in the United States at least, but it did happen with one particular 2017 release.

Back in 2017, many gamers would have been busy with The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Horizon Zero Dawn, PUBG, Super Mario Odyssey, and the other games that headlined the year. What also came out that year though was Doki Doki Literature Club. At first, the visual novel game flew under the radar before blowing up and going viral.

We won’t get into why this happened, and why it was engulfed in controversy, as that would indirectly spoil the game. What can be said, is that not all is what it seems with the game. And many are finding this out because the game is free with all tiers of PlayStation Plus — this means PS Plus Essential, PS Plus Extra, an PS Plus Premium — for the month of October.

For those that have not connected the dots yet, the mystery game is Doki Doki Literature Club. The game has been out for seven years at this point, has been free on Steam the whole time, and had all the aforementioned controversy, yet it seems many PS Plus subscribers had no idea what it is about. This is changing now though.

“Doki Doki is on a whole different level of what the f**k,” reads a post over on the PS Plus Reddit page. “Just wanted to say that this game is definitely not what it comes off as being. The level of what the f**k as my title says is out of this world. I don’t know if it’s a really good game or a fever dream but it’s definitely worth checking out.”

The popularity of the post, as well as a number of comments, echo the sentiment: “Please please please continue to the end,” reads one of these comments. “The payoff is worth it. One of those games that wish I could erase from my memory so I can experience it again. It was a crazy experience. “

Those that decide to check out this game now that it is free via PS Plus, should expect to sink about four to eight hours with it. However, completionists will need closer to 14 hours to see and do everything in the game. Those without PS Plus will need to fork over the usual $14.99 to play the game on PlayStation.

A new rumor is suggesting that PlayStation might be gearing up to release a remastered collection of some of the older entries in the God of War series for modern platforms. Throughout the PlayStation 3 era, Sony opted to remaster nearly every game up until that point in the God of War franchise. Titles like God of WarGod of War IIGod of War: Chains of Olympus, and God of War: Ghost of Sparta were all remastered as part of different bundles and were brought to PS3. In the generation that followed, though, only a remaster of God of War III ended up coming to PS4. Now, it sounds as though PlayStation could be dipping into this back catalog again in the coming year.

As reported by Need4Games, the publication shared new info from an insider called “Lunatic Ignus” who claimed on Discord that multiple God of War remasters are in the works. It was said that this remaster would encompass all of the games from the Greek era of the series. This would include the first three mainline entries, Chains of OlympusGhost of Sparta, and Ascension. The project is said to be in the works primarily at developer Nixxes and will be announced in March of 2025, which is when the series will turn 20 years old. Further details on the collection’s eventual launch were not shared.

Given the strange nature in which this rumor has come about, be sure to take everything that has been claimed here with a major grain of salt. Even though PlayStation has been focusing more heavily on remasters and remakes lately, there’s no guarantee that these older God of War games will be next in line to get the treatment. Still, as arguably PlayStation’s biggest franchise, a remastered collection like this would be a fantastic way of celebrating 20 years of God of War and would surely thrill numerous longtime fans.

How would you feel about many of these older entries in the God of War saga returning on PlayStation 5? Do you think that this is something that PlayStation should focus on, or are you sick of so many remasters? Be sure to share your thoughts with me over on social media at @MooreMan12

A horror game from the PlayStation 4 era that has seen a huge return in popularity recently is part of a sale that will only last for one more day. Since the launch of Alien: Romulus earlier this year, the 2014 survival-horror video game Alien: Isolation has once again been getting played in droves. Now, for those who have been looking to play the title with Halloween drawing near, a new deal should be pounced on before it’s gone.

As of this moment, Alien: Isolation is currently discounted by 85% on the PlayStation Store. Normally retailing for $39.99, the game is now being sold in a digital capacity for $5.99. This represents one of the best discounts for Isolation that has ever been seen in its 10-year lifespan. Better yet, the version of Alien: Isolation that’s being sold here is “The Collection” edition, which comes with additional content not found in the base iteration.

As mentioned, the big thing to note with this sale is that it won’t last long whatsoever. Alien: Isolation is only marked down on the PS Store as part of the “Weekend Offer” promotion that is currently running. As such, this discount will be gone in a little more than a day in the early hours of October 8th. With this in mind, you’ll want to act very quickly if you’re on the fence about picking up Alien: Isolation

To help make up your mind, you can check out a trailer and official synopsis of Alien: Isolation attached below.

Alien: Isolation

“Discover the true meaning of fear in Alien: Isolation, a survival horror set in an atmosphere of constant dread and mortal danger. Fifteen years after the events of Alien, Ellen Ripley’s daughter, Amanda enters a desperate battle for survival, on a mission to unravel the truth behind her mother’s disappearance.

As Amanda, you will navigate through an increasingly volatile world as you find yourself confronted on all sides by a panicked, desperate population and an unpredictable, ruthless Alien. Underpowered and underprepared, you must scavenge resources, improvise solutions and use your wits, not just to succeed in your mission, but to simply stay alive.”

Nearly a year after releasing, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has matched its lowest price ever on PlayStation 5. For the most part, PlayStation hasn’t discounted the Marvel’s Spider-Man sequel very often outside of some promotions earlier in 2024. Luckily, for those who have been looking to get the game for less than its standard retail value, a new sale is live for a limited period of time.

As of this week, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has seen its price slashed by 29% and is now retailing for $49.99. This deal is live across a number of different retailers including WalmartAmazon, and GameStop. This matches the lowest amount that Spider-Man 2 has ever been sold for both in a digital and physical capacity.

In the months ahead, there’s a good chance that we could see some even better sales for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. With the holiday season rapidly approaching, it wouldn’t be surprising to see PlayStation include the game in some discounts at various retailers. This is something that PlayStation opted not to do this previous holiday season, likely because Spider-Man 2 had just launched. Still, if you’d prefer not to wait until closer to Christmas to get the game at a better price, this current offer is definitely a good one.

You can learn more about Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 by checking out the sequel’s official synopsis and launch trailer below.

“Spider-Men Peter Parker and Miles Morales face the ultimate test of strength inside and outside the mask as they fight to save the city, each other and the ones they love, from the monstrous Venom and the dangerous new symbiote threat. Explore an expansive Marvel’s New York with faster web-swinging and the all-new Web Wings, quickly switching between Peter and Miles to experience different stories, epic new abilities, and high-tech gear.

Wield Peter’s symbiote abilities and Miles’ explosive bio-electric powers in battle against new and iconic Marvel Super Villains – including an original take on a symbiote-infused Venom, the ruthless Kraven the Hunter, the volatile Lizard, and more from the Marvel Rogues’ Gallery.”

A cult-classic from the PS2 era is currently only $3.74 on the PlayStation Store via a 75% discount. This is the lowest the game has ever cost on PS4 and PS5, and probably the cheapest it will ever cost on the PlayStation Store. As for the game in question, it hails from 2005, a year that gamers to the likes of Resident Evil 5, Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories, Tony Hawk’s American Wasteland, God of War, Forza Motorsport, Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, Civilization IV, Guitar Hero, Battlefield 2, Shadow of the Colossus, Psychonauts, Burnout Revenge, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, and of course NIntendogs.

There were other noteworthy games from 2005, but any more games would just be exhausting the point, which it was a fairly stacked year. And in a stacked year, you get cult classics that go overlooked by many at the time but develop a following and positive reputation over time.

An example of this, from 2005, is Indigo Prophecy, also known as Fahrenheit outside of the United States. This action-adventure game was the sophomore effort from French developer Quantic Dream at the time. For those unfamiliar with this name, it is better known in the modern era for 2010’s Heavy Rain and 2018’s Detroit: Become Human.

At the time of its release, Indigo Prophecy earned an 85 on Metacritic, won a couple awards come the end of the year, and sold over one million copies, a respectable return for the time. For those that have never experienced it, now is a good time, because it is the aforementioned $3.74 game on the PlayStation Store, at least until October 10.

“In this paranormal thriller, New York City is stunned by a series of mysterious murders that follow the same pattern: ordinary people become possessed and kill absolute strangers in public,” reads an official pitch of the game on the PlayStation Store for those unfamiliar with the title. “Play both sides of this breathtaking murder conspiracy and uncover the supernatural forces behind these crimes.”

Some PlayStation Plus subscribers have missed out on one of October’s free PS Plus games after its banning. For the month of October, PS Plus subscribers — or at least most PS Plus subscribers — on PS4 and PS5 are getting the following three games for free: Dead Space, Doki Doki Literature Club Plus, and WWE 2K24. For the entire month of October these games are completely free to download, no matter what tier of PlayStation Plus a subscriber has. The offer is available via PS Plus Essential, PS Plus Extra, and PS Plus Premium. Some subscribers won’t be able to download the highlight of this month though, Dead Space

While Doki Doki Literature Club Plus was once a viral hit and while the WWE 2K series is fairly popular, there is no denying for most the marquee PS Plus game this month is Dead Space. The problem with Dead Space is that it has some fairly over-the-top violent content, complete with some very realistic, gore-fueled dismemberment. This isn’t a problem in the United States, or at least it hasn’t been for a while. Violent content is still a problem in Japan though.

As you may know, the remake of Dead Space was prevented from releasing in Japan due to its violent content. As a result, PS Plus subscribers on PS4 and PS5 in Japan have not received Dead Space for the month of October. Rather, they have received Utawarerumono: Lullaby to the Fallen, a fairly substantial downgrade.

This isn’t the first time certain parts of the world — including Japan — have received a different PS Plus offer due to this issue and various other issues. And typically when it happens, the negatively impacted region receives a substantially less interesting game, which is exactly what has happened here. What makes this incident sting a little more is the replacement game — Utawarerumono: Lullaby to the Fallen — is PS4 only, unlike the game it has replaced.

One of the best games on PS5 is only $5 for a limited time. And this isn’t the only noteworthy PlayStation game currently on sale. Thanks to a couple promotional sales on the PlayStation Store, there are a metric ton of both PS4 games and PS5 games available at discount. Some of these PlayStation games are cheaper than they have ever been.

The pick of the litter is perhaps a game from 2016. When PlayStation fans think of 2016, they probably think of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, and rightly so as it was the marquee release from Sony that year. They may also think of Overwatch, Dark Souls 3, or Persona 5, as some of the other best games of 2016.

Right in the Game of the Year conversation with these other games was a smaller title — from a smaller, Danish studio — called Inside. Inside is not only considered one of the best games of 2016, but one of the best games of all time. And right now, until October 10, it is 75 percent off, which means it is only $5.

If this PS4 and PS5 deal doesn’t catch the eye, there are many other dirt cheap PlayStation games right now, including games and series such as XCOM, Dead Island, Just Cause, Psychonauts, Castlevania, DOOM, LEGO, Darksiders, Burnout, Rayman, Shenmue, and Amnesia.

Another hugely popular game has been confirmed as PS5 Pro “enhanced.” While the expectation is the majority of relevant games releasing on PS5 in the post PS5 Pro-era will be enhanced for the premium Sony console, it remains to be seen how many PS5 games will be retroactively fitted for the PS5 Pro. Of course, the PS5 Pro will run these games, and run them better than the standard PS5, by default, but there’s no guarantee said game will be finely tuned to take advantage of the PS5 Pro. Some PS5 games — both out and upcoming — have confirmed this though.

The latest PS5 game to confirm it will be PS5 Pro enhanced is technically an Xbox game, as it comes from the walls of Activision-Blizzard, which is owned by Xbox. In other words, the best place to play an Xbox-owned game, at least on console, will be the PS5 Pro.

This mystery game is none other than 2023’s Diablo 4 from Blizzard Entertainment. The 91-rated release was one of the biggest releases of last year, even if it didn’t live up quite to the expectations of every Diablo fan. How many of the millions and millions of copies that have been sold have been on PS5, we don’t know, but every PlayStation fan will be able to enjoy PS5 Pro enhancements for the game when the PS5 Pro releases, assuming they pick up the new $700 console.

Right now, we don’t have any details on how the game will be enhanced for PS5 Pro. The news comes from Diablo boss Rod Fergusson, who promises to share more details at a later date.

The new free PlayStation Plus games are the best so far this year, if review scores are worth taking into consideration. There are a variety of issues with game reviews and sites, such as Metacritic, that aggregate them. However, they are one way to get a generally sense of a game’s quality. And the latest free PS Plus games, on average, have reviewed better than previous PS Plus games so far this year.

For those out of the loop, the free PS Plus games in questions are the ones made available for the month of October, for all tiers of the subscription service. Whether a PS Plus Essential subscriber, a PS Plus Extra subscriber, or a PS Plus Premium subscriber, all three of the following games are free for October: Doki Doki Literature Club Plus, Dead Space, and WWE 2K24.

For the first time this year, the review scores of these games average out to a score above 80. By this measurement, October is the best month, by a pretty margin, so far this year, as far as PlayStation Plus is concerned.

For those curious, Dead Space has an 89 on Metacritic, Doki Doki Literature Club Plus an 80, and WWE 2K24 an 81. This is at least the scores of the PS5 versions of each game. For example, on other platforms some of these games actually have higher scores.

a.png

Again, review scores are not a perfect representation of a game’s quality. In recent times, in fact, there has been a large gap between consumer and critic consensus. However, it is one of the better tools we have to get a consensus-driven data on a game’s quality.

In the month of October, specifically, Dead Space is a great fit.  Without getting into spoilers, Doki Doki Literature Club Plus ain’t bad either. WWE 2K24 is the underwhelming option for the month, but for those interested in checking it out, it is apparently better than some recent entries.

Until Dawn 2 Reportedly in the Works at PlayStation https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/until-dawn-2-playstation-ps5-report/ Fri, 04 Oct 2024 16:06:34 +0000 https://comicbook.com/?p=613248 until-dawn.jpg

PlayStation is reportedly in the process of working on a sequel to its 2015 horror game Until Dawn. As of this week, a new remake of Until Dawn has been released across PlayStation 5 and PC. This will precede a movie adaptation of the game, which began filming a couple of months ago. With so much renewed focus now being placed on the Until Dawn franchise, it seems that PlayStation is also spinning up development on a sequel as well.

With the Until Dawn remake now available, new footage of the game’s ending has been circling and teases that there is more to come. This new conclusion of Until Dawn wasn’t seen in the original version of the title and has instead been solely added to the remake. Without spoiling anything, the remake simply adds a new scene that sets the stage for further stories in this universe fo come about in the future.

Following the reveal of this new ending, insider Nick Baker shared what he has heard about the future of Until Dawn. Specifically, Baker said on X that he has been told PlayStation studio Firesprite is currently in the process of working on Until Dawn 2. Previously, it was known via job listings that Firesprite was working on a horror title of some sort. Now, assuming that Baker’s information is accurate, it’s known that this project is Until Dawn 2

Generally speaking, it makes a lot of sense for PlayStation to work on an Until Dawn sequel for all of the aforementioned reasons. With this series set to become a film franchise in the years ahead, PlayStation will certainly want to capitalize on its jump to a new medium by making the series more accessible than ever before. Bringing Until Dawn to PS5 and PC was merely the first phase of this plan, with Until Dawn 2 being a long-term focus. Whether all of this will result in Until Dawn becoming a far larger property for PlayStation in the years to come remains seen, but it’s clear that this new remake won’t be the last we see of the franchise.
