Power Rangers fans were delighted when Digital Eclipse revealed Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind, and now we have a new trailer and a long awaited release date for the hotly anticipated 90s style arcade brawler. Rita’s Rewind is looking fantastic in the new footage, and now we know that it will be launching on consoles, Switch, and Steam on December 10th. Players can choose from the original five Rangers from the outset, and the Green Ranger is in the mix as well, but the trailer and a new PlayStation Blog post makes it clear that you won’t just be brawling during your time in the game.

Digital Eclipse says that about 70% of the game will feature that classic beat ’em up action, with players utilizing melee attacks and combos to make their way through waves of Putty Patrollers and Rita Repulsa’s other minions. The other 30% though will shake things up and take inspiration from some SEGA classics, including Space Harrier and Out Run.

These sequences speed up the action even more and capture the full experience of being a Power Ranger, but they also switch things up for longtime franchise fans. For example, an early sequence will have traveling through Angel Grove and learning what’s happening to the timestream thanks to Rita’s shenanigans. You’ll be battling a familiar foe in Goldar, but you’ll also encounter enemies that shouldn’t be appearing at this point in Power Rangers history.

Gameplay Switch-Up

After you face Goldar, Rita will then throw down her staff and turn Golder supersized, and as fans of the show know, this is where the Zords come in. This will happen in the game as well, as things will shift perspectives and take on full super-scaler style when the Rangers jump into their Dinozords to follow in pursuit. You’ll blast away obstacles and enemies with your Zord’s weapons as you try and catch up, drawing upon games like Galaxy Force and After Burner.

When you finally do catch up, the gameplay will switch for a third time, but this time around you’ll adopt a first person view from your Megazord as you battle the towering Goldar. Each player will get a chance to wear the boss down and contribute to the overall end goal of defeating him, and throughout the course of the game players will bounce between all three gameplay modes in a time travel adventure like no other.

In the post, Digital Eclipse Content Editor Dan Amrich revealed that their goal with Rita’s Rewind was to make a game that could have and should have existed back in the day while also taking advantage of all the knowledge players have now regarding arcade gaming.

“In fact, one of the concepts that drives a lot of what we do at Digital Eclipse is the desire to make games the way you remember them playing, even if your memories have made those experiences a little sweeter and cooler than they might have actually been back in the day. Our goal with Rita’s Rewind is to make a game that could have existed, and certainly should have existed, but probably wouldn’t have existed with all this variety in one place. Since we have the benefit of looking at arcade gaming in the rearview mirror for 30 years, we’ll take advantage of that to try to deliver something better than you would have remembered,” Amrich wrote.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind releases on PS4, PS5, Xbox Series S/X, Steam, and Nintendo Switch on December 10th.

Fans of the Power Rangers franchise will see quite a bit of history represented in Heritage Auctions’ upcoming Power Rangers auction, which is scheduled to open up the bidding on October 18th. The lineup (which you can find here) is simply massive, and for the first time ever bidders will have the chance to add some of the original suits, helmets, props, and more from the series to their collections. The auction features 689 different pieces up for bid, but there is a catch for fans of the franchise. Several actors who brought those Rangers to life on the screen would love to have a chance at getting their suits from the show, as they weren’t able to take them after their shows ended. We’ve included a list below of those we know have expressed interest in bidding on their costume, as well as some of the highlights from the auction that fans will want to be aware of as well.

Mighty Morphin Fan’s Dream

If you happen to be a fan of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, you are in luck, as the auction is full of items from the series that started it all. There are costumes and props for Johnny Yong Bosch’s Black Ranger, Amy Jo Johnson’s Pink Ranger, David Yost’s Blue Ranger, Thuy Trang’s Yellow Ranger, Jason David Frank’s Green Ranger and White Ranger, as well as the standard Red Ranger suit. There are also costumes from the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers movie, including several Ranger costumes and the Ninjetti suits.

You can also pick up several weapons and accessories like the Power Daggers, the Dragon Dagger, the Power Lance, the Power Axe, and perhaps my favorite item, Saba, which features the handle and head of everyone’s favorite talking sword. For those who want something extra unique, you can also get the Mighty Morphin Meower Rangers costumes in a bundle that features all 6 suits.

Villains are well represented as well, featuring Lord Zedd’s Z Staff, Rita Repulsa’s Scepter, Scorpina’s costume, Goldar and Finster’s Animatronic costume heads, and various versions of Putty costumes.

Before we depart Mighty Morphin, there are also several items from the reunion special Once & Always. Highlights there include the Alpha 9 costume, Robo Rita, David Yost and Walter Jones’ Ranger costumes, Blade Blasters, and Charlie Kersh’s Yellow Ranger costume.

Beyond MMPR

Heritage auctions

While MMPR is obviously well represented, it’s far from the only series in the franchise, and there are tons of other series listed in the auction. We’ve included all of the shows represented below, but some of the highlights include the Power Rangers Zeo Gold Ranger costume, several Animatronic puppets from Zeo, Divatox’s costume, In Space Galaxy Glider and Costumes, Time Force Hero Police Uniforms, Dino Thunder Weapon Sets, Dino Thunder Super Dino Mode Ranger costumes, and S.P.D’s Officer Hero Costumes and SWAT Costumes.

That’s just scratching the surface, as other highlights include the Anubis Cruger animatronic head, Dino Charge weapons, Mystic Force Udonna Costume, Ninja Steel Cosmo Royale mask, Goldar Maximus Costume, Master Zedd Hero Costume, RPM Weapons, Dino Fury costumes, Dino Fury Baby Pacha Zord, and more.

Some of the most surprising inclusions are the Ninja Turtles: The Next Mutation action head displays, featuring Donatello, Raphael, Michelangelo, and Leonardo, as well as Venus. Big Bad Beetleborgs is also in the mix, as well as Masked Rider and Beetleborgs Metallix. Here are all of the Ranger seasons included in the auction.

  • Mighty Morphin Power Rangers
  • Power Rangers Zeo
  • Power Rangers Turbo
  • Power Rangers In Space
  • Power Rangers Lost Galaxy
  • Power Rangers Lightspeed Rescue
  • Power Rangers Time Force
  • Power Rangers Wild Force
  • Power Rangers Ninja Storm
  • Power Rangers Dino Thunder
  • Power Rangers S.P.D.
  • Power Rangers Mystic Force
  • Power Rangers Operation Overdrive
  • Power Rangers Jungle Fury
  • Power Rangers RPM
  • Power Rangers Samurai
  • Power Rangers Megaforce
  • Power Rangers Super Megaforce
  • Power Rangers Dino Charge
  • Power Rangers Ninja Steel
  • Power Rangers Beast Morphers
  • Power Rangers Dino Fury
  • Power Rangers Cosmic Fury
  • Power Rangers Once & Always

Ranger Actors Who Hope to Bid on Their Costumes

There have been a few actors who would love to try and get ahold of the suits and props from their seasons, as they weren’t able to take them home or keep them after filming concluded. We’ve gathered the actors who are trying to bid on their suits below, as they have either publicly commented on it or have been in contact with Power Morphicon. Anyone is free to bid in the auction of course, but it would be great to see some of the costumes end up in the collections of those who helped bring them to life on screen.

That includes Dino Fury and Cosmic Fury star Hunter Deno, who has expressed hopes on X of being able to pick up her Cosmic Fury suit (and the awesome hammer that goes with it). On X Deno wrote, “I will be bidding on my suit. It’s unfortunate but of course I want it. And now I’m having to decide between my suit and my hammer because they’re being auctioned separately. So sad but if it’s my only chance, I’m gonna try.”

Actors hoping to bid on their show items include:

  • Hunter Deno – Cosmic Fury
  • Brennan Mejia – Dino Charge
  • Ciara Hanna – Megaforce
  • Tracy Lynn Cruz – In Space
  • Jessica Rey – Wild Force

What do you think about the auction and will you be bidding on anything? You can find the entire auction here, and you can talk all things Power Rangers with me on Threads and Twitter @mattaguilarcb!

BOOM! Studios will begin a bold new era of Power Rangers comics with its upcoming Power Rangers Prime, and now we’ve got our first look at the series with a full trailer and preview of Power Rangers Prime #1. Power Rangers Darkest Hour writer Melissa Flores has teamed up with artist Michael YG (Iron Fist), colorist Fabi Marques, and letterer Ed Dukeshire for a new chapter in the Power Rangers saga that is also the perfect starting point for new fans, though longtime fans will see some of their favorites in the mix as well. You can watch the full trailer in the video above, and you can get a look at what this new era holds in the preview below.

A New World

As you can see in the preview, the first character we meet is Mark Zhao, who is just taking out the trash when he discovers someone in the dumpster hiding. That person looks to be a certain Lauren Shiba of Power Rangers Samurai, but she’s in pretty bad shape and asks for help, and Mark shuts the door when some soldiers approach. After getting them to leave there are two prevailing questions to answer, including who this person is and how to help her without getting caught.

We then move to Angel Grove University to a classroom where Mark is asked a question about his experience as a refugee to Earth. We get a glimpse of that journey but Professor Barall doesn’t make him continue. Barall, who is Eltarian, instead moves to another Eltarian student named Jun, asking him about how he came to Earth. Jun reveals he was born here and then goes into how the Eltarians first came into contact with Earth and humanity.

They first met 70 years ago after Earth was invaded by the Beast Brigade of Gamma VII, which was also humanity’s first contact with alien lifeforms. As the self-appointed protectors of the known universe, The Eltarians stepped in and helped Earth repel the invasion, and this new alliance benefited Earth with technology and advancements that would have taken centuries to achieve on their own. That’s the story we get from this angle anyway, so it will be interesting to see if that holds up under further scrutiny as the series plays out.

What Is Power Rangers Prime?

Power Rangers concluded its eight-year comics run with the big finale to Darkest Hour, and Prime is the beginning of a brand-new story that will still work in some of the legends of the past. You can find the official description for Power Rangers Prime #1 below.

POWER RANGERS is BACK and better than ever! Angel Grove University students face a difficult choice after crossing paths with a fugitive straight out of legend. The consequences for hiding her are dire…but her existence may not stay secret for long.

In the wake of Darkest Hour, prepare yourself for a bold new era and a brand-new story unlike anything that’s come before! A perfect “Day One” jumping on point for new readers and old fans alike!

“With Power Rangers Prime, we’re bringing the comics into a reimagined world! Familiar characters and settings will pop up in unexpected ways, but this is an all-new adventure – a crazy journey I can’t wait to share with you that beats with the heart of what it means to be a Power Ranger,” Flores said. “With designs by Dan Mora and art by the incredible Michael Yg, honestly I’m just blown away and so thankful to be a part of it!”

Power Rangers Prime #1 will feature a main cover by Dan Mora, with variants by Doaly (Radiant Black), Juni Ba (The Boy Wonder), InHyuk Lee (Mighty Morphin), Bon Bernardo (Mighty Morphin Power Rangers), Joëlle Jones (Catwoman) with Jordie Bellaire, and Rafael Albuquerque (American Vampire). The Power Rangers brand has been a bit radio silent since Power Rangers Cosmic Fury, and while there have been a few projects here and there, fans have been waiting to see what the next era holds for the franchise. It seems despite the lack of announcements, there are indeed some plans in the works for the franchise, which came way of a question from Moriviews’ Moriba Forde to Hasbro President Olivier Dumont. While Dumont didn’t go into specifics, he said that they do have “exciting plans for quite a few brands including Power Rangers.”

A Time of Change

power-rangers-cosmic-fury-with-logo-trailer.jpg

The franchise celebrated its 30th Anniversary in 2023, releasing a reunion special in Once & Always and the final consecutive season of Power Rangers with Cosmic Fury. Both were released on Netflix, and this was to be the final chapter of this run before the streamer launched a rebooted universe.

The reboot was being developed by Jonathan Entwistle (I Am Not Okay With This) and showrunner Jenny Klein and was set to deliver a connected world of characters across both television and film. Unfortunately earlier this year it was reported that the live-action series was no longer moving forward at Netflix, with Hasbro reportedly exploring a new creative direction for the show as well as a new partner as a result of the change.

The Power Rangers Brand

While the TV and movie sides of the franchise are in flux, there are other things happening with the franchise in the interim. The gaming front is actually where Power Rangers is most visible at the moment, as a new Rita’s Rewind video game was recently announced for consoles and the mobile hit Legacy Wars continues to add new content. Renegade Game Studios’ continues to release new content as well for the Power Rangers Deck-Building Game and Heroes of the Grid, and they’ve also introduced a variety of new content into their Power Rangers Roleplaying Game.

Then there’s the toys and collectibles side of the franchise, which is also going quite strong despite the fact that Hasbro’s Lightning Collection ended rather abruptly. Other companies are still creating new statues and collectibles for the franchise, and there will be a new toy line next year from Playmates as well.

So now the question is, what do you want to see in a new Power Rangers project? You can talk all things Power Rangers with me on Threads and Twitter @Mattaguilarcb!

The Power Rangers franchise might not be coming back any time soon, but it’s sparking up conversations all over again as the first look at a potentially cancelled animated reboot has surfaced online. The Power Rangers franchise recently celebrated its 31st anniversary, and over the three decades the series has gone on to inspire multiple iterations of the TV series, video games, comic books, and even a few feature films over the years. But there’s one avenue that the franchise has yet to explore in all this time, an animated one as the series has not gotten an animated project of any kind.

But it seems like an animated project could have happened as a surfaced animated film for the Power Rangers franchise has popped up online. The touted cancelled film, Power Rangers: Origins, would have been developed by Saban Brands and Zag Entertainment (the production studio behind Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug and Cat Noir), and would have featured a new take on the original team from the first season of the Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers TV series. Posters and other promotional material for the cancelled project have appeared on eBay (as spotted by @RangerBoard on X) and you can check them out below.

What Is Power Rangers: Origins?

Details for this reportedly cancelled project are scarce due to the secretive nature of its development, but Power Rangers: Origins was apparently in development for Saban Brands in the period where they owned the franchise and were looking ahead to what could be coming next. This was during the era following Saban Brands buying the franchise back from Disney, and developing new projects. Which means it was also during the period in the 2010s before the franchise rights were sold to Hasbro, but for one reason or another this animated take on the franchise never came to pass (much also like the recently cancelled Netflix reboot).

From the looks at the material, it looks to be a fully animated rebooted take on the original Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers line up of Jason, Kimberly, Billy, Zack and Trini. Though their respective characters might have gotten redesigns for the new era, it seems like the rest of the franchise would have been redesigned as well with new designs for the zords as seen through the promotional materials as well. But an animated version of the franchise is still something many fans are hoping to see in action someday.

Will There Ever Be an Animated Power Rangers?

Desire for a fully animated Power Rangers series is something fans of the franchise have been vocal about for quite some time. As the live-action TV shows and movies are currently inactive, fans had hoped to see some kind of animated take bring the franchise in a whole new kind of direction that can’t be replicated with real suit actors as seen in the Tokusatsu adaptations. But there could be several different reasons why the franchise has yet to make an animated debut with the central being potential licensing issues.

Given that the Power Rangers franchise adapts Toei’s Super Sentai series in Japan, there are a number of deals likely in place to use the characters in different ways. Whether changing these designs and squarely focusing on the Power Rangers versions of the characters makes it easier for some kind of project, it’s all holding back an animated take. Unlike some of the other Hasbro brands enjoying their animated runs, Power Rangers just might be more complicated in getting an animated version out there. Especially now that the TV series seems to have gone dormant for the time being.

PLUS: The Clue movie reboot may have a director; the Transformers & G.I. Joe movie gets an update; Zack Snyder’s 300 TV series is happening – and Netflix’s One Piece Season 2 drops some major casting surprises!

Transformers One Review

Here’s what ComicBook Nation’s Anime Initiative host Evan Valentine had to say about his 4-star review of Transformers One

I would be remiss by not calling this the best Transformers film since the 1980s animated film. If this is the future of the Transformers franchise, then Autobot and Decepticons fans have a bright future to look forward to indeed.

The Penguin Review

ComicBook’s Jenna Anderson had the following to say in her 4.5 out of 5 star review of The Penguin:

Across its eight episodes, The Penguin redefines what verisimilitude can mean in the world of comic book adaptations. The grittiness, violence, and double-crossing that fans would expect from the title are abundantly present, but balanced with a truly heartfelt take on loss, rebirth, and personal agency. The series is not only one of the better crime dramas in recent memory, it is one of the best examples of how to branch out decades of beloved lore. The Penguin is simply a show about people trying to thrive in a world much bigger and weirder than they can even comprehend – a subject that would be universal nonetheless, but transforms into something special with its engrossing performances.

Few franchises have shown as much staying power and timelessness as Power Rangers, and it’s a bit hard to fathom that the franchise got its start on this very day 31 years ago. On this day in 1993, the first episode of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers hit the airwaves and ushered in a Kids TV powerhouse that would then expand beyond TV into the realms of Toys, movies, games, collectibles, and comics. All these years later the franchise is waiting for its next chapter to begin, but there’s still plenty to celebrate in the meantime, and we’ve got everything you need to know and be on the lookout for right here.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Where It All Started

power-rangers-31-anniversary.jpg

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers first aired on August 28th, 1993, and would introduce fans to the original five Rangers. Jason (Red Ranger), Trini (Yellow Ranger), Billy (Blue Ranger), Zack (Black Ranger), and Kimberly (Pink Ranger) would make up the original team, and they would soon be joined by the Green Ranger Tommy, who would go on to become one of the icons of the franchise. The team would experience some changes along the way, both in cast and in terms of Rangers and Zords, and would conclude its run on May 23rd, 1994.

Power Rangers was adapted from the Super Sentai series Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger, and subsequent seasons of the show beyond Mighty Morphin would adapt other Sentai entries. The most recent entry in the franchise was 2023’s Cosmic Fury, which gave the Dino Fury cast their third season to close out a 30 year run.

Movies and TV

power-ranger-movie-amy-jo-johnson-rita-repulsa-216307.jpg

At the moment you can find quite a few Power Rangers projects on Netflix, which currently holds the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, both seasons of Power Rangers Dino Fury, and the one season of Power Rangers Cosmic Fury. You can also find the 2023 reunion of the original cast on Netflix in Power Rangers: Once & Always, which brought back David Yost, Walter Emanuel Jones, Steve Cardenas, and Catherine Sutherland as Rangers. You’re going to have to move around a bit for the other film projects, as the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers film from 1995 can be found on Disney+ at the moment, while the 2017 Power Rangers reboot film can be found on Prime Video.

Gaming

mighty-morphin-power-rangers-ritas-rewind-2.jpg

Power Rangers fans have a bevy of options to choose from in the realm of gaming, and one of the most exciting games is right around the corner. Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind will hit later this year, and brings the classic beat-em up style of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to the Power Rangers franchise in a game for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC. Those who want a good deal can also find the previously released fighting game Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid, which is available for PS4, Xbox One, and Switch.

You can also find the free to play fighting game Power Rangers Legacy Wars on iOS and Android, which has added a massive amount of Rangers and villains as playable characters to the roster over the years and is still updating with new content. On the tabletop side there is the miniature skirmish game Power Rangers: Heroes of the Grid, which has released a host of expansions and additional teams for the game. There’s also the Power Rangers Deck-Building Game, which just released the It’s Morphin’ Time expansion that includes the new Green Ranger from the comics. If you happen to love roleplaying games, you can also check out Renegade’s Power Rangers Roleplaying Game and its expansions to start your own campaign.

Comics

power-rangers-prime-header-image.jpg

Speaking of the comics, now is a perfect time to catch up on everything you’ve missed and get ready for a new era. BOOM! Studios recently released a first preview of its Power Rangers Prime series, which will launch a new starting point and a group of fan favorite Rangers to follow along with, including Lauren from Power Rangers Samurai. You can find trades of Go Go Power Rangers, Power Rangers, and Power Rangers: The Return as well, and the latter featured Amy Jo Johnson and Matt Hotson bringing back the original team of Rangers for an all new adventure with some big surprises.

While you wait for Prime, there is also the fantastic Power Rangers Infinity, a one-shot that introduces fans to a delightful new team of oddball Rangers, as well as the excellent Ranger Academy, which follows an academy that trains students to become Rangers set in thesame world of the Rangers we know and love. Oh, and if you want crossovers, you can’t go wrong with Mighty Morphin Power Rangers/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles either!

Toys and Collectibles

lord-drakkon-super7.jpg

That brings us to toys and collectibles, which continues to showcase the franchise in various ways. On the action figures front, fans can find good deals on the Lightning Collection, as the franchise will introduce a new line of toys from Playmates next year. In the same action figure realm, Super 7 also has their brand new Lord Drakkon Ultimates figure, which is based on the evil version of Tommy Oliver from an alternate universe. The Drakkon figure comes with some amazing accessories, including a broken Saba, alternate head sculpt, and a broken Red Ranger helmet, and he can be pre-ordered here. There are also Ultimate versions of the Dragonzord, Lord Zedd, and core Rangers available as well.

If you want bigger scale figures, you can also get the Power Rangers One:12 Collective Deluxe Boxed Set, which features the original five Rangers with a host of accessories that includes the Power Blaster! If you’re into smaller collectibles, Funko has a variety of Pops to add to the collection, including the Green Ranger 30th Anniversary, Ranger Slayer, and more.

In the even higher scale side of things, Diamond Select has a new Power Rangers Red Ranger Gallery Statue up for pre-order, as well as a 3D 1:2 Scale Bust of the White Ranger, which is stunning. Then there’s the Ranger’s mentor Zordon in a 1:10 scale statue from Iron Studios, who also have new Ranger statues coming as well.

Happy 31st Anniversary Power Rangers, and can’t wait to see what the next 31 years hold for one of my favorite franchises!

When Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Rita’s Rewind was announced back in June, only the five original Rangers were revealed as playable characters: Jason, Trini, Zack, Billy, and Kimberly. Unfortunately, that left one glaring omission: Tommy Oliver, the Green Ranger. Fans have long been hoping to see Tommy announced, and Digital Eclipse has now made it official. According to the developer, the game will feature Tommy’s origin story as part of the game’s narrative, and Tommy will become a playable character once the campaign has been completed. Tommy’s weapon of choice in the game will be his iconic Dragon Dagger.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Rita’s Rewind has some connective tissue with Power Rangers: Once & Always. In the game, Robo Rita has gone back in time, with the goal of altering history to defeat the Power Rangers. As such, players will be revisiting some of the most iconic moments from the earliest days of the show. The five-part Green With Evil storyline certainly qualifies as such, having first introduced viewers to Tommy, who was portrayed in the series by the late Jason David Frank. Tommy quickly became a fan favorite character, and arguably the face of the franchise.

In addition to the announcement, Digital Eclipse shared some images of Tommy in the game. Interestingly enough, in one image, Tommy can be seen fighting the Tenga Warriors. By the time the Tenga Warriors appeared in the show’s third season, Tommy had become the White Ranger, so it will be interesting to see if the appearance of the villains has something to do with Rita’s manipulation of the timeline!

mmpr-ritas-revenge-tengas.jpg

For those that haven’t been keeping up with the game, Rita’s Rewind is an arcade style brawler, similar to the SNES Power Rangers games developed by Bandai. In addition to fighting foes like the Putty Patrol and Tenga Warriors, players can also look forward to giant boss fights using the Megazord! The game is supposed to come out before the end of 2024, but a full release date has not been confirmed. When it does release, the game will be made available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam.

Power Rangers Lightning Collection Mighty Morphin Power Morpher

With Playmates picking up the Power Rangers toys license from Hasbro, there’s a good chance that the Lightning Collection line has come to the end of the road. That said, this might be your last opportunity to pick up the Power Rangers Lightning Collection Mighty Morphin Power Morpher replica, which first launched in 2020 and has been out of production for quite some time.

Note that there are multiple deals going on right now that you can take advantage of when picking up your Power Morpher. Currently, you can order the Power Morpher with an automatic 10% in-stock discount and free U.S. shipping using our exclusive Entertainment Earth link. Note that the discount is good on any in-stock item, so you can add more collectibles to your cart and save on those as well. However, Entertainment Earth is also running a sale on in-stock items that offers 10% off orders of $100 or more, $25 off orders of $200 or more, and $50 off orders of $300 or more through September 2nd, so there are even bigger discounts to be had when you cross the $200 threshold.

The Power Rangers Lightning Collection Power Morpher is inspired by the original morpher in the MMPR series and features premium painted details and diecast power coins that can be swapped out to  unlock sounds and light up the morpher with colors inspired by each of the original Power Rangers: Mastodon, Pterodactyl, Triceratops, Sabertooth Tiger, and Tyrannosaurus.

As for the Playmates Power Rangers lineup, look for a kid-focused first wave to drop in 2025. Here’s what Hasbro and Playmates had to say about the partnership:

“We are honored to work with Hasbro on the reimagination of this iconic franchise’s toy line for long time fans and a new generation of children. Playmates and Hasbro speak the same toy language and share a passion for POWER RANGERS, a multi-generational phenomenon that has stood the test of time,” said Karl Aaronian, Playmates’ SVP of Marketing.

“Playmates’ ability to interpret character-based story telling in highly detailed, innovative, and affordable products has revitalized several iconic brands, they are the perfect fit to fully expand the POWER RANGERS franchise,” said Casey Collins, President of Licensed Consumer Products at Hasbro. “While we’ll continue to provide oversight and direction on future POWER RANGERS product ranges, Playmates will leverage its action figure and accessory design, development and marketing expertise to create an entirely new play and collecting experience for fans of all ages. With two powerhouse companies coming together to support a powerhouse brand, the potential is limitless!”

BOOM! Studios brought its celebrated Power Rangers saga to an epic close in Darkest Hour, and fans have been wondering what the future might hold for the franchise. Now BOOM! Studios has pulled back the curtain to reveal what that new era will be, and it will be known as Power Rangers Prime. At the helm of this new series will be writer Melissa Flores (Power Rangers, Dead Lucky) and artist Michael Yg (Iron Fist), and they will be leading the Rangers into a bold new era that isn’t bound by the same rules or history as Power Rangers stories that have come before. Fans can experience this new adventure when Power Rangers Prime hits comic stores on November 13th, and you can check out a full preview of the new series on the next slide.

Familiar Faces, New Ideas

As you can see in the cover and the preview, there are still Rangers around, but the circumstances and world they find themselves in have been shaken up. That’s because Prime spirals into new directions after the world forever changed with Darkest Hour, and nothing and no one is off limits. You can find the official description for Power Rangers Prime below.

“Power Rangers is BACK and better than ever! Angel Grove University students face a difficult choice after crossing paths with a fugitive straight out of legend. The consequences for hiding her are dire… but her existence may not stay secret for long. In the wake of Darkest Hour, prepare yourself for a bold new era and a brand new story unlike anything that’s come before! A perfect ‘Day One’ jumping on point for new readers and old fans alike!”

A New Era

“With Power Rangers Prime, we’re bringing the comics into a reimagined world! Familiar characters and settings will pop up in unexpected ways, but this is an all-new adventure – a crazy journey I can’t wait to share with you that beats with the heart of what it means to be a Power Ranger,” said long time Power Rangers scribe, Melissa Flores. “With designs by Dan Mora and art by the incredible Michael Yg, honestly I’m just blown away and so thankful to be a part of it!”

“What did I do to deserve drawing a Power Rangers book? Seriously! Back in the 90s, kids of my age in China got only a handful of American shows and cartoons and they were simply priceless! We’d rush back home from school to catch them regardless how pissed our parents were for not spending the time studying. But I had no regrets, because Power Rangers was one of the best,” said Power Rangers Prime series artist, Micahel Yg. “Now, not only am I drawing it, but the book is also written by the unbelievably talented Melissa Flores, and designed by Dan Mora, one of my favorite artists out there these days that I look up to. So it is for the team, for my younger self, and most importantly for you, that I’m putting my absolute heart and soul into this book! I can’t wait for you to read it.”

“Power Rangers is an integral part of BOOM! Studios’ DNA, and in the wake of the finale of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, we were never going to stop telling new and exciting ongoing stories,” said Power Rangers Editor, Allyson Gronowitz. “Melissa and Michael are putting together the most ambitious, ongoing Power Rangers story yet. It’s a brand-new era, a brand-new story, and I hope you all come along for the ride!”

Power Rangers Prime #1 will feature a main cover by franchise favorite Dan Mora, and will feature gorgeous variants by Juni Ba (The Boy Wonder), InHyuk Lee (Mighty Morphin), Bon Bernardo (Mighty Morphin Power Rangers), Joëlle Jones (Catwoman), Rafael Albuquerque (American Vampire), and more. Power Rangers Prime #1 hits comic stores on November 13th, and is available to pre-order at your local comic store now.

It’s Power Rangers colliding with another world in the new Isekai anime coming in 2025, The Red Ranger Becomes an Adventurer in Another World! Fans of Super Sentai and other Tokusatsu heroes might have noticed how many of these heroes have gotten a full anime debut in the last few years especially as more creators play around with the ideas. Kamen Rider, Ultraman, and more have seen new takes, and Super Sentai squads even took over the anime world with releases like Go! Go! Loser Ranger! releasing earlier this year. Now the popular Isekai subgenre is getting its own spin on these heroes too.

First created by Koyoshi Nakayoshi for Square Enix’s Monthly Shonen Gangan in 2020, The Red Ranger Becomes an Adventurer in Another World imagines a world in which a Red Ranger loses to the big bad at the end of the series and is instead sent to a new fantasy world with all of his hero powers, weapons, and mecha intact. You can check out the first look at this new Red Ranger Isekai anime series with its first trailer in the video above and first poster below:

What Is Red Ranger Isekai?

The Red Ranger Becomes an Adventurer in Another World is currently scheduled to release some time next January as part of the Winter 2025 anime schedule. Keiichiro Kawaguchi will be directing the new anime series for Satelight with Atsuhiro Tomioka handling the series composition, Shuji Maruyama designing the characters and serving as chief animation director together with Hideaki Onishi and Ayaki Ito, and with Koichiro Kameyama composing the music. The first additions to the voice cast include the likes of Tomoya Ito as Tоogo Asagaki (who transforms into the hero, Kizuna Red), Konomi Inagaki as Idola Avom, Minami Tanaka as Teltina Liz Wagrel Alvarost, and Tomohiro Ono as Rosie Mist.

The Red Ranger Becomes an Adventurer in Another World is licensed for an English language release by Square Enix’s Manga UP! service and they tease the series as such, “Asagaki Togo, the Red Ranger, is defeated by the ultimate evil organization during their final faceoff. He was sure he was about to die, but instead he was reborn in a completely different world! There, he becomes an adventurer to help those in need, transforms into Kizuna Red and continues his fight for justice! Enjoy this heroic tale of a Ranger protecting another world!”

TNA star Joe Hendry is busier than ever, appearing in both TNA and NXT and mixing it up with both company’s biggest stars. There’s a lot to celebrate, but there’s something else worth celebrating as well, and that’s Hendry getting his very first action figure. At San Diego Comic-Con it was revealed that Hendry would be getting an action figure in the successful Major Bendies line, though in an interview with Matt Cardona, Cardona did have some choice words for Hendry’s surging popularity. In an interview with ComicBook, Hendry reacted to getting his first figure and responded with some choice words of his own to Cardona, but then he also revealed how he is just like the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Green Ranger.

The First Hendry Figure

joe-hendry-major-bendies-copy.jpg

When asked about getting his first action figure and how it felt, Hendry was thrilled, though he still had to throw a jab back at Cardona for what he said. “Oh, it is awesome. It’s very cool. And look, listen, he is Edge’s b****, but I owe Matt Cardona quite a lot here. Because despite our rivalry, this man would not stop. He was telling me, ‘Get a Pro Wrestling Tees, get this, get that, get this, get that.’ He was telling me all the stuff to do, and I was like, ‘Yeah, no, I’m just super busy right now.’ And it was kind of like when I was releasing the song, I thought one day, I was like, man, I’m just going to have to do this one day.”

“So we got the Pro Wrestling Tees set up, and my shirt within five days became the best-selling wrestler shirt of the year on Pro Wrestling Tees. So I owe Matt Cardona one,” Hendry said. “So we’re now in a situation where I’m doing an action figure, where we’re going to be able to put some money in his pocket, a little bit money in my pocket, and I think hopefully we’re going to be able to bring them on the road with TNA as well. So again, doing great business for everybody. That’s the goal.”

The TNA Green Ranger

Speaking of action figures, TNA recently revealed their new action figure line with PowerTown, and the TNA Ultras Series 1 action figures will include Moose, Jordynne Grace, Josh Alexander, and Eddie Edwards. That’s a fantastic lineup, but where’s Hendry? When I brought up the possibility of him being in the line at some point, Hendry threw out a Power Rangers comparison that was rather perfect.

“Let me just stop you there, right? You remember Power Rangers? You remember you had the five Power Rangers,” Hendry asked. “Awesome, right? Then the Green Ranger shows up. I’m the Green Ranger of TNA wrestling, right? So they’ve got their PowerTown series. They just announced a Joe Hendry PowerTown figure. That’s the way you think of me, right? I get my own Megazord. There you go.”

Hopefully, the next set of TNA Ultras brings that Hendry figure into reality, though not that the premise is out there, perhaps a collaboration with Hasbro should make a Joe Hendry Green Ranger figure a reality as well. And the Hendryzord! Okay okay, I’m spiraling so apologies, but c’mon, that would rule right?

After an 8-year journey that set a quite high bar for what Power Rangers could be and the stories it could tell, it’s finally time to bring that larger-than-life saga to an end. That conclusion occurs in the much anticipated Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Darkest Hour #1, and it was never going to be easy landing this eight-year flight in a truly satisfying way. That said, the team of Melissa Flores, Simona Di Gianfelice, Raul Angulo, Jose Enrique Fernandez, Ed Dukeshire, and editors Allyson Gronowitz and Kenzie Rzonca managed to somehow make that happen while also delivering a few unexpected moments that will undoubtedly stay with you, especially if you’ve been here since the beginning.

The Darkest Hour

comic-reviews-mighty-morphin-power-rangers-darkest-hour-1.jpg

The Rangers have continued to find ways to survive against ever-mounting odds, and while there have been moments of hope throughout “Darkest Hour,” there hasn’t been all that much in the way of momentum for the good guys in quite some time. That’s part of what makes Darkest Hour #1 work on a few different levels, with one being the simple ability to cheer on some wins and take a deep breath as the finale moves toward its epic close. There’s also a payoff in regards to the sheer grit of every Ranger left standing, who despite the lack of light at the end of that tunnel never hesitate to keep moving forward.

That’s not applicable if the challenge feels easily overcome, and that’s been far from the case throughout the series. At every turn, it seems the Rangers are confronted with another problem and fewer resources to fix said problem, and those stakes and the tension that tags along feel rewarded when the Rangers finally close some of those loops.

Decisions Matter

mmpr-darkest-hour-1-review.jpg

That brings us to the other rather unexpected element throughout the finale, and there will likely be some that come away mixed on this. A prevalent theme throughout these past few issues of Power Rangers and especially in Darkest Hour #1 is the meaning of consequences and the ripple effects every action ultimately has on the world. Whether large or small, those ripple effects matter, and no matter the intent, any action will carry its own consequences, positive or negative. If you expected every arc and story built to this point to be left in a satisfying place, I think you’ll be in for a shock, and not necessarily a negative one.

In fact, it’s part of what has stuck with me most since first reading the issue. Not everyone makes it, and even those that do are left changed in significant ways. Certain character arcs are brought to their conclusion in a fashion that evades the happily ever after of it all, and that might not be the ending some had hoped for. All that said, for me that’s part of why it all works. When consequences feel real, decisions have weight, making those crossroad moments feel earned, especially when they live in the grey. Billy and Zordon are a perfect example, as not all of Billy’s choices have paid off on the road here, and despite how things may turn out, there is real fallout that can’t be magically fixed.

By the way, don’t fret in the slightest, as while I prattle on about internal conflicts and big decisions, there are a ton of delightful action sequences throughout the issue that will feel bigger than life. It never gets old seeing eras of different Rangers portal through to join the battle, and special props for allowing Baboo, Squatt, and Goldar to pilot a Zord. I’d watch a half-hour sitcom of that on its own. I’d be remiss not to give some praise to an outstanding morphing sequence in the issue’s second half as well. It’s gorgeous, as are several other moments away from the battlefield (or at times still on it) that once again highlight the interpersonal relationships that have helped make this series such a dream for fans of the franchise.

End of an Era

power-rangers-logo-hasbro-pulse-con-2022.jpg

It’s not perfect, though many of the issues are connected to the practicalities of space and real estate. There just seems to be too much to address and wrap up in one issue, even if it is 40 pages. While many of the key characters in this chapter of the story get a moment or two, there also seems to be a lot left on the table, and it’s a quick jump from the climax of the battle to the ending and resetting of a status quo. There just isn’t enough space to move through the world and explore how this really affected everyone, with the exception of one or two conversations. The ones that are there are fantastic mind you, but I did find myself wanting to see more of them.

That brings me to the ending, and as previously mentioned, I love that it takes the world and everything done within its parameters seriously. There are consequences to what has come before, and it’s happened to stick with me quite a bit. I love where we leave things, even though I clearly have questions. There’s a bit of melancholy to the finale that I didn’t expect, but the willingness to explore moments of complexity is part of the indelible mark the comics have made on the franchise, and with one era now behind us, here’s to what the future holds.

At Summer Game Fest earlier this month, Digital Eclipse surprised and delighted viewers with a reveal for Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Rita’s Rewind, an all-new game coming to PC and consoles later this year. At the heart of the game is the villain Robo-Rita, who previously appeared in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always. In a new interview with Time Extension, Digital Eclipse content editor Dan Amrich talked about the connection between these two projects, and how Rita’s Revenge builds off Robo-Rita’s plans from the movie.

Once and Always felt like a love letter to fans, something that allowed the 30th anniversary’s nostalgia while also acknowledging that fans who grew up with the franchise have never really left. We enjoyed that special and since it was the most recent major Power Rangers event, we thought that’d be a great place to start,” Amrich told Time Extension. “Then we just started dreaming the way other fans do — ‘Oh, Robo-Rita made a time portal! Well, what if she actually succeeded with her plan? Knowing all the ways she’d been defeated over the years, what would Robo-Rita do if she could go back in time and share all those spoilers with her younger self?’ It gave us a great excuse to play with both modern and classic elements from the franchise.”

Basically, it sounds like the developers used the Netflix film as a jumping on point, and as a way of revisiting characters and elements spanning the earliest days of the Power Rangers franchise. That means if you’re concerned about the continuity aspects, it manages to explain why the team will have to once again take down foes defeated throughout the show’s first few seasons. It’s an intriguing approach, and connecting the game to a high-profile, well-regarded Power Rangers film is a smart way to appeal to both hardcore fans, and those newer to the franchise.

It remains to be seen whether Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Rita’s Rewind will be able to rank with the best video games based on the property. From the excellent Natsume games of the Super Nintendo era, to the mostly well-received Battle for the Grid. Thankfully, fans won’t have to wait much longer to find out, as Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Rita’s Rewind will arrive this year on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch.

The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers are no strangers to crossovers, and their latest team-up features Stan Sakai’s beloved Ronin Rabbit Usagi Yojimbo. Today BOOM! Studios announced a special one-shot crossover featuring the Power Rangers and Yojimbo, which will be written by Ryan Parrott (Power Rangers/Rogue Sun), illustrated by Shawn Daley (Ogre), and colored by James Jenner (Jim Henson’s The Storyteller: Shapeshifters). The one-shot will also coincide with Yojimbo’s 40th Anniversary and will hit comic stores this September. You can check out a full preview of the issue on the next slide.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers/Usagi Yojimbo will send the Rangers back in time after something happens with their morphers during a battle with Rita. They end up in the Edo era of Japan, and end up being approached by the mysterious Ogasawara, though as you might expect, not everything is as seems, and they will need to come to grips with that if they ever want to get back home.

The one-shot will feature a main cover by Tauren Clarke (Mighty Morphin Power Rangers) and variant covers by Sakai with colors by Eli Fujii, Jared Cullum (Usagi Yojimbo: Ice and Snow), Goni Montes (Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Return), and Takeshi Miyazawa (Mech Cadets).

A Crossover Dream Team

“I’m really excited with Usagi’s crossover with the Power Rangers,” said comics legend Stan Sakai. “This is the first time Usagi has teamed up with real superheroes (that do not have shells)! It’s a great story with fantastic art!”

“I think one of the most exciting elements of comics is the unexpected crossover, so when BOOM! Studios asked me if I was interested in pairing the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers with Usagi Yojimbo, I didn’t hesitate,” said veteran Power Rangers scribe Ryan Parrott. “I’ve been a fan of Stan Sakai’s work and the epic story he’s been telling my whole life, so it was a true honor to get to step into that world and play with those characters. Plus, the moment I saw Shawn Daley’s artwork, I knew this had the potential to be an insanely fun, one of a kind ride that hopefully both Ranger and Samurai fans will enjoy.”

“Some characters feel destined to cross paths, and I hadn’t realized how much I needed this team-up until I was asked to help bring it to life,” said artist Shawn Daley. “Stan Sakai’s legendary work was a formative introduction to comics for me, and as a lifelong fan of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, the combination hits hard. That’s in no small part to Ryan’s incredibly fun script, which has been a privilege to draw. I also got to use my original Power Rangers figures for reference material – an artist’s dream come true!”

What Is Mighty Morphin Power Rangers/Usagi Yojimbo #1 About?

During a routine Rita Repulsa attack, the Rangers’ morphers do something unexpected…by hurling them back to the Edo era of Japan! Upon arriving at their historic destination, the mysterious Ogasawara begs the Rangers for their help. But the enemy they face isn’t what they were expecting…and our band of heroes will have to face a painful revelation if they want to save the day and return home.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers/Usagi Yojimbo #1 will hit comic shops on September 25th and is now available for pre-order.

Power Rangers fans have been waiting diligently for any news regarding the in-development Netflix live-action series, but unfortunately, the news as of now is far from what they hoped to hear. TV Line has confirmed that the live-action series is no longer moving forward at Netflix (via an original report from @Jinsakuu), and Hasbro Entertainment, who owns the franchise, will now explore a new creative direction for the show and a new partner. Jonathan Entwistle was overseeing the series while Jenny Klein was the series showrunner, but so far Entwistle, Klein, Netflix, nor Hasbro have commented on the status of the series.

Jinsakuu’s original report stated that Hasbro is looking to do something similar to what it just did with the Power Rangers toy line. Earlier this year Hasbro revealed that it had licensed the Power Rangers toys to Playmates, which will start to roll out their lines next year. It’s stated that Hasbro is looking to follow a similar path for the Power Rangers TV rights and that they are trying to be as hands-off as possible.

On Twitter, Jinsakuu wrote, “Due to the lack of staff and all the departments and responsibilities Hasbro had to take on. They’re lisencing Power Rangers Toys and Media off to other companies. As we seen with playmates who now own full control of the toys they’re doing the same with the show rights. Also they’re trying to be as hands off as possible and still own the franchises revenues. So good news maybe ??”

Netflix has been a frequent partner of Hasbro over the past few years, and over the past year or so that’s also been the case with Power Rangers. Power Rangers: Dino Fury and Cosmic Fury both called Netflix their exclusive home, while Netflix was also the place to find the 30th Anniversary special Once & Always. At one time there were far bigger plans for the franchise at the streamer, especially with Entwistle involved.

Entwistle co-created I Am Not Okay With This and The End of the F***ing World for Netflix, and in 2020 he was announced as the overseer of the franchise in both TV and film. It was all rumored to be part of a grand plan to connect those various areas of the franchise moving forward, presenting a vision that captured the nostalgia and iconic elements of the series while also creating a vision for the future. That has unfortunately not come to fruition as of yet, and now it’s murky if that vision will ultimately happen.

We’ll have to wait and see if this is overhauled completely or if tenants of the original plan remain and just find a different home, but hopefully, there will be more clarity soon.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers recently celebrated its 30th Anniversary, and in continuing celebration of that milestone, the franchise has revealed a new video game as part of Summer Game Fest. Today Digital Eclipse and Hasbro revealed a new retro-inspired action game titled Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind, and as you can see in the trailer below, the game harkens back to classic brawlers and side scrollers while mixing in the fan-favorite moments from the franchise’s history. The game is currently slated to hit PC and consoles in late 2024.

Rita’s Rewind features the original five Rangers and allows for online and offline co-op with up to five players. You’ll also be able to pilot their Zords and other vehicles throughout, including cycles and even a rollercoaster as they try and take down enemies with their blasters as they move through the environment.

That includes one particularly awesome sequence seen in the trailer that shows the Red Ranger guiding the Tyrannosaurus Dinozord and trying to take down a floating version of Eye Guy. Later in the trailer, we see the next step of that battle, as you are battling Eye Guy from the cockpit of the Megazord in first person. Familiar locations in Angel Grove can be seen throughout as well as even more villains, and the big villain at the center of it all is Rita Repulsa, though there’s a twist, as there are actually two Ritas to contend with.

“As we celebrate over 30 years of POWER RANGERS, we are excited to collaborate with Digital Eclipse to introduce Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind to our passionate fanbase,” said Eugene Evans, SVP Digital Strategy and Licensing at Hasbro and Wizards of the Coast. “We created Hasbro Retro Arcade to deliver a modern take on old-school arcade action based on our world-class brands and characters. This further illustrates our strategy to grow our digital games portfolio through licensing and internal development and we can’t wait for fans’ reactions when revisiting iconic moments through this new, yet retro, gameplay.” You can find the official description for Rita’s Rewind below.

“A new story with a familiar foe…In Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind, the team faces off against a robotic reincarnation of the Power Rangers’ long-time nemesis. Robo-Rita has conjured a portal to send herself back in time so she can finally vanquish the Power Rangers by forming an alliance with her younger self. Working together, Robo-Rita and Rita Repulsa rewind, rewrite, and remix the past in an attempt to stop the very formation of the Power Rangers, altering the course of history.

Will the two Ritas and their army of monstrous enemies from across the MMPR timeline finally succeed in destroying the Power Rangers? Or will these teenagers with attitude learn to work together and counter this catastrophic chronological collaboration?

Players will be able to experience the origins of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers again – for the first time! The past will never be the same…”

A new comic book day is once again upon us, and there is no shortage of fantastic books to choose from. Whether you’re into big superhero epics (Superman, Justice League vs Godzilla vs Kong, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers), introspective character dives (Wonder Woman), edge-of-your-seat horror-tinged adventures (Feral, Something is Killing the Children), or summer-blockbusters (Blood Hunt, Pooh vs Bambi), there’s something that will hook you, and we’re breaking them all down on this week’s new episode of ComicBook Nation’s The Pull List, which you can listen to right here. You can also find out the highlights of the week below.

Highlights of the Week

It was a great week overall in terms of quality and fun, but there were a few books that especially stood out, including Wonder Woman #9 and Blood Hunt #2. They couldn’t be more different from each other, but that also makes them the perfect one-two punch. Wonder Woman #9 moves the relationship between Diana and Steve Trevor into the spotlight as Diana continues to endure the trials of the Sovereign, and it opens up a host of discussions regarding what Trevor has meant to Wonder Woman in the past, what he means now, and his importance (or perhaps lack thereof) to Wonder Woman’s story overall.

Blood Hunt #2 on the other hand is a summer blockbuster at its finest, delivering an action-stuffed issue with real stakes and genuine tension throughout. By the way, the work Pepe Larraz and Marte Gracia are creating right now is truly unreal, and the mix of characters and creativity in how they are used is becoming one of the series’ strongest elements.

On the complete other side of the summer blockbuster scale is Pooh vs. Bambi #2, an absurdly fun series that has already won over both hosts. While it doesn’t have the depth of something like eBlood Hunt, it also doesn’t need to, and it leans into its fantastical premise in interesting and often bloody ways.

Speaking of bloody, there’s plenty of that in Something is Killing the Children #37, but that’s ultimately not why it’s one of my favorite issues of the series to date. While the issue is a self-contained tale for the most part, the character pairing of Erica and the girl she is protecting is just brilliant, and their banter and exchanges can’t help but make you wish we had more of their adventures to see down the road. That’s probably not the case, but even if this is just for one issue, they absolutely steal the show.

Feral does as well, and though it was Janell’s introduction to the series, she couldn’t help but be swept away in the tension-filled Aristocats meets The Walking Dead adventure. More answers can’t come soon enough, and hopefully, some hope lives around the corner after the harrowing journey they’ve experienced to this point.

Superman also impresses with the fourth chapter of House of Brainiac, once again delivering on previous threads while also moving the characters forward in intriguing ways, all in the midst of a superhero throwdown that looks stunning. Oh, and Queen Brainiac, well, she’s something else entirely. You can check out everything we had to say about all this week’s books right here, and you can find all of the books we discussed below.

Review Rundown

  • Wonder Woman #9
  • Blood Hunt #2
  • X-Men 97 #3
  • Superman #14
  • Feral #3
  • Something is Killing the Children #37
  • Pooh vs Bambi #2
  • Justice League vs Godzilla vs Kong #7
  • Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #120

Trade Watch

Not done yet! Trades also hit this week, and one in particular that deserves some shine is Mad Cave Studios’ Edenfrost. The four-issue series can now be read all in one place, and the story of two siblings and a powerful mystical Golem that defends their bloodline offers something very different from anything else on stands. It’s a tale of family and magic that you won’t want to miss, and you can check out the official description below.

“After losing their parents in a pogrom, teenage siblings Alex and Yuli use the mystical power of a Golem to survive the chaos of the Russian Civil War. In a harrowing journey through war-torn Ukraine, the duo will face the harsh reality of warfare, ethnic bias, and national pride as they fight for their place in the world.”

It would be wrong to call the Power Rangers anything but an institution. Over the decades, the franchise has welcomed millions of fans into the sentai club. From its original outing to its latest series, Power Rangers has done it all. And now, the IP is going viral all thanks to one fan’s animated take on the heroes.

As you can see above, the work comes courtesy of Dominic Estephane. The talented animator hit up YouTube with a special project titled The Morphing Grid: A Power Rangers Anthology. The trailer brings the world of Power Rangers to life using animation, and it is nothing short of stunning.

According to Estephane, they tapped into several specific pieces of . Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers season two was high on the list along with Leo and Space. These specific series helped the artist refine an “anime” inspired style with “Genndy Tartakovsky” ties, and the result is gorgeous.

Honestly? It is hard to imagine a Power Rangers anime or animated series looking better than this. We need this kind of content in our veins ASAP.

Of course, the Power Rangers fandom is going nuts over this pitch, and social media is spreading word around. This tribute comes at the perfect time as the Power Rangers are making headlines thanks to a certain anime. This year, the hit sentai anime Go, Go, Loser Ranger debuted to critical acclaim. The anime, which is ongoing, brings the best of sentai storytelling to life while giving it a dose of grit. The anime’s success has put a renewed focus on the OG Power Rangers, and thanks to this new trailer, netizens are ready to beg for a full-blown animated series.

A new era of Power Rangers began in 2018 when the Power Rangers franchise was acquired from Sagan Brands by Hasbro, and since then we’ve seen a variety of action figures, toys, and television shows under that umbrella. Now a new era is set to begin on the entertainment side, but another new era is beginning on the toys side as well, as Hasbro has announced a global licensing agreement with Playmates Toys. Playmates Toys will produce and distribute Power Rangers products moving forward, with the first wave happening in 2025 with the launch of a new kid-targeted Mighty Morphin Power Rangers line.

Under the new deal, Playmates will hold licensing rights to develop additional cross-category Power Rangers products, including action figures, blasters, plush, role play, vehicles, and accessories. Playmates will distribute across all regions except for Asia.

While Playmates will handle the toy side of things, Hasbro will retain the entertainment rights and will work with licensees across multiple categories to drive its global strategy for the brand. That includes publishing, fashion, footwear, promotions, and more. Hasbro will also feature Power Rangers on Hasbro Pulse and as part of its presence at events like San Diego Comic-Con.

Power Rangers just celebrated its 30th Anniversary last year, which ushered in Power Rangers: Once & Always and Power Rangers Cosmic Fury on Netflix. The BOOM! Studios comics also continue to thrive in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, Ranger Academy, and the recent launch of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Return miniseries.

Playmates Toys already handles several beloved properties, including Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Miraculous, Godzilla x Kong, and Star Trek. Now Power Rangers will be joining that mix, and it remains to be seen if things like the Lightning Collection will continue or if Playmates will launch another similar high-articulation line of figures.

IF (2024) Review

ComicBook critic Jamie Jirak’s IF movie review gives the film 3.5 out of 5 stars:

The film does a good job of reminding its audience that there’s a kid in all of us, and that time can never truly take away your imagination. It’s been a while since I looked around in a theater and saw multiple grown men shedding a tear. Krasinski knows how to appeal to parents, especially dads. While IF may not be a perfectly pieced-together movie, there’s enough heart embedded in its core to make it a worthy trip to the cinema for families. The cast is delightful, the IFs are magical, and the warmth is undeniable.

Go Go Loser Ranger is like no other anime on the market today, or perhaps no other anime that has ever existed. Taking the Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers franchise and turning it on its head, this anime series might just have something for everyone. Thanks to the Divine Dragon Rangers’ secrets that they hold back from the public, the anime adaptation isn’t just a play on the Sentai franchise but also feels like a tribute to Homelander, The Seven, and the world of The Boys.

Go Go Loser Ranger starts how you might expect when it comes to any of the Power Rangers series that have arrived in the past. What viewers learn is that the Rangers of this world have long since defeated the monsters that were attempting to take over the surface. The “Villainous Army of Evil” still exist but they are effectively the play things of this world’s rangers, as the Divine Dragon Rangers find themselves wheeling out the “footsoldiers” to defeat ad nauseum for an adoring public. This repeating act hints at the true sadism of these anime Rangers, which begins to unfold in a similar structure to The Boys, showing that the Red Ranger has more than a little in common with Homelander.

The Divine Dragon Boys

Of course, the Rangers aren’t the only ones that play a role in this anime. Much like Hughie from The Boys, Footsodlier D finds himself dragged into a world that he didn’t expect as he attempts to get revenge against the super-powered individuals keeping him down. Much like the group formed by Butcher, Footsoldier D is going to find himself with the opportunity to take a swing at his tormentors, but will his world become worse due to this?

If you want to catch the current episodes of Go Go Loser Ranger, the installments are streaming on Hulu. Here’s how the streaming service describes the series, “When the Monster Army invaded Earth thirteen years ago, the Divine Dragon Rangers rose up to stop them! With the war raging on, these great heroes are mankind’s Last Hope!…or are they? In truth, the invaders were subjugated within a year, forced to continue to crank out a monster a week for the Rangers to crush in front of their adoring fans! But one monster has had enough. Something has to change! He’ll rebel against the might of the Dragon Rangers and destroy them all…from the inside!”

PLUS, TV recap of X-Men ’97 Episode 7 and Bastion’s debut, a review of the Sonic spinoff series Knuckles, and a look at the WWE Draft

Knuckles Review

In his review of Knuckles, ComicBook.com’s Marc Deschamps wrote:

Despite some small issues I had with the show, I found Knuckles to be a delightful new chapter in the ongoing Sonic the Hedgehog Cinematic Universe. What could have been a drawn out movie with a lower budget is instead an absurdly hilarious adventure that adds more depth to a pair of established characters. The music’s great, and Adam Pally and Idris Elba might have better chemistry than we even saw between Ben Schwartz and James Marsden. There are bound to be some Sega fans disappointed that the show doesn’t feature a bigger threat, or more of a presence from Sonic and friends. We should get both of those things in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 though, and I’m happy that we got something weird and unique to flesh out this universe. Knuckles is not going to be the Sega adaptation anyone is expecting, but it’s a wild ride worth taking, especially for fans of the Sonic films.

It’s the end of an era, as BOOM! Studios’ popular Mighty Morphin Power Rangers series is officially coming to a close after an eight-year run. BOOM! Studios has announced that Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Darkest Hour #1 will be the final issue of the eight-year saga, which will feature writer Melissa Flores (Spider-Gwen: Smash), artist Simona Di Gianfelice (Firefly: Return to the Earth That Was), and colorist Raúl Angulo at the helm. Fans can pick up the final issue of the main series, which will be Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #122, on July 24th. Darkest Hour will also launch with a series of gorgeous covers, and you can check out your first look at them on the next slide.

The official release did tease that fans can look forward to many exciting Power Rangers announcements from BOOM! Studios in the next several months, including at San Diego Comic-Con, so while Darkest Hour #1 brings the current run to an end, this is likely not the end of the Power Rangers comics universe.

“After nearly two years, the Darkest Hour comes to a close. This event has been one of the biggest tasks of my career, but I’ve enjoyed every single, heart-wrenching minute. Although I put our poor Rangers through the ringer, I hope the ending is as satisfying for the reader as it was for me to write it!” said series scribe Melissa Flores.

“I’m really excited to tell this incredible adventure together with Melissa. So far she has kept us in suspense and now she’s ready to surprise us again! Get ready to dive into this final chapter of Darkest Hour! GO GO!” said veteran Power Rangers artist Simona Di Gianfelice. You can find the official description and the cover list below.

“It all ends here! With the Morphin Grid in peril, the people of Earth are left without the Power Rangers to protect them. The ultimate battle against Dark Specter will play out with unexpected consequences, while an unlikely group of rogues, villains, and Rangers make strange company… But even if they win… can they rebuild everything they’ve lost?

Fan favorite Rangers writer Melissa Flores (Spider-Gwen: Smash), acclaimed artist Simona Di Gianfelice (Firefly: Return to the Earth That Was), and acclaimed colorist Raúl Angulo, weave together a story that fans have been waiting nearly a decade for… delivering an unforgettable finale that everything has been building to!”

The ComicBook Nation Crew reviews Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver, Guy Ritchie’s Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, and Radio Silence’s new horror flick Abigail

TV recaps include big things happening in Fallout, X-Men ’97, and Shogun. PLUS our first reactions to the Transformers: ONE trailer, Netflix’s The Witcher gets its Final Season, and a preview of the AEW Dynasty event!

Abigail Review

abigail-movie.jpg

Host Kofi Outlaw gave Abigail 3.5. out of 5 stars in his review:

As many horror fans will wonder: Abigail (thankfully) never takes itself too seriously; never pretends the audience doesn’t know the twist, or ever imagines being anything other than an efficiently executed, single-setting, (and literally) ripping-and-roaring good time. It doesn’t re-invent the B-movie horror wheel in any way, but its balanced blend of heist action, crime drama, gore horror, and comedy does make it a uniquely fun experience, from a director team that is hitting its best strides.

Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare Review

ministry-of-ungentlemanly-warfare-interview-jerry-bruckheimer-cast.jpg

Patrick Cavanaugh gives the film 2 out of 5 stars in his review

The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare is mostly a harmless outing that isn’t actively bad, and even has isolated incidents of charm, if even just accidentally. It’s hard to pull together a cast like this and end up without anything entertaining, so the stars are the ones who deserve the most credit in the experience. The overall product, however, feels like the distillation of Ritchie’s career, in that he wants to embrace the roots of his more effective and abrasive cinematic sensibilities yet also doesn’t want to commit to anything too provocative that won’t prevent Disney from offering him Aladdin 2… instead feeling like an entirely inoffensive and forgettable film that would have otherwise been released straight to VOD if not for a somewhat recognizable cast.

It’s tough being a goon who has to take on any kind of “Sentai Ranger”, but the world of Go Go Loser Ranger takes things up a notch for its evil underlings. The Divine Dragon Rangers of the newest anime hit are on top of the world, but their corruption is a tightly held secret from the general public. Following the premiere episode that set the stage for “Foot Soldier D”, the Sentai anime has released a new preview to get fans hyped for the second outing of the Rangers.

Surprisingly, there has never been an official anime adaptation for the Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers, though the Sentai franchise continues to be widely explored to this day. The latest live-action series focusing on Power Rangers was Power Rangers Cosmic Fury on Netflix, and brought back a fan-favorite villain to the forefront. Lord Zedd made a comeback in the thirtieth season of the franchise, taking on the latest cast of Rangers. While no new season has been confirmed for this year, it’s clear that the Sentai genre isn’t going anywhere any time soon.

Go Go Loser Ranger Episode 2 Preview

Go Go Loser Ranger is one of many new anime series that are an exclusive of Disney+/Hulu, joining the likes of Undead Unluck, Bleach: Thousand Year Blood War, Sand Land, and more. As the anime streaming wars continue, expect more platforms to fight over the latest series and movies in the medium.

If you want to learn more about the new anime series taking place in a “Power Rangers-style” universe, here’s how Yostar Productions describes the story of the Loser Ranger, “When the Monster Army invaded Earth thirteen years ago, the Divine Dragon Rangers rose up to stop them! With the war raging on, these great heroes are mankind’s last hope …or are they? In truth, the invaders were subjugated within a year, forced to continue to crank out a monster a week for the Rangers to crush in front of their adoring fans! But one monster has had enough. Something has to change! He’ll rebel against the might of the Dragon Rangers and destroy them all…from the inside!”

Go Go Loser Ranger will air its first episode later this month, presenting a world that is far different from the one you might see in a property like Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers. Exploring a world that features a group known as the “Divine Dragon Rangers”, the pseudo-Power Rangers are hiding some major skeletons in their closet. As one former villain of the Sentai squad attempts to take them down from the inside, the Yostar Productions series has shared a new preview to hint at the Loser Ranger’s arrival.

Go Go Loser Ranger first premiered as a manga thanks to the publishers at Kodansha and creator Negi Haruba. Rather than focusing on the Divine Dragon Rangers, the upcoming anime adaptation will instead focus on a member of the “Villainous Army of Evil”. Footsoldier D will come up with a plan to get revenge on the Rangers by infiltrating their group and working towards the Sentai collective’s destruction. As mentioned earlier, the anime adaptation will be made by Yostar Productions, who is responsible for the likes of Aknights, Blue Archive, and Azur Lane to name a few.

Go Go Loser Ranger Premiere First Look

Luckily, should the Loser Ranger’s anime want to continue, there is plenty of material to work with from the manga. The series has continued to this day as the Footsoldier continues to learn more about the Dragon Rangers and struggles with what he is hoping to accomplish once more than a few secrets are revealed. While an official Power Rangers anime hasn’t been confirmed, this series is definitely the next best thing.

If you want to learn more about the upcoming anime series taking place in a Sentai-style universe, here’s how Yostar Productions describes the story of the Loser Ranger, “When the Monster Army invaded Earth thirteen years ago, the Divine Dragon Rangers rose up to stop them!

Anime fans can expect Go Go Loser Ranger’s first episode to arrive on April 7th, and the series will be exclusive to Disney+ and Hulu.

Renegade Game Studios held a special 10th Anniversary edition of Renegade Con, and during the festivities, they revealed around 30 new pre-orders. If you happen to be a fan of Renegade’s G.I. Joe, Transformers, or Power Rangers lines, you are very much in luck, as they revealed new items across all three franchises, with four new items for G.I. Joe, 2 for Power Rangers, and 2 for Transformers. The entries in these lines are releasing in May, June, July, and August, and include new additions to the Roleplaying Game side and the Deck-Building Game side, as well as the first entry in an Axis & Allies crossover. You can find all of the pre-orders right here.

If you’ve been looking to get started in the G.I. Joe Roleplaying Game, Renegade is offering a Boot Camp Beginner Box with everything you need to jump in. The set is $35 and will be released in May, and in addition to the main rulebook also comes with two adventures, 8 pre-generated characters, a set of G.I. Joe dice, and a GM Screen.

gi-joe-axis-allies.jpg

For those who want to expand those adventures and add new playable factions to the mix, there’s the G.I. Joe Roleplaying Game Intercontinental Adventures: Factions in Action Vol. 2 sourcebook. This sourcebook brings in three unaligned factions that you can include in your campaigns and play as, including the Arashikage ninja clan, the Dreadnok mercenary biker gang, and the Oktober Guard. These factions include new mechanics, stats, specialized equipment, and contacts. There are stat blocks for key members of each faction as well, including Storm Shadow, Back-Stop, Skymate, and Snow Storm.

power-rangers-beneath-the-helmet.jpg

There’s one more way to add new elements to your G.I. Joe campaign, as Renegade also has the Quartermaster’s Guide to Gear sourcebook up for pre-order. This retails for $45 and brings 16 new weapons from across G.I. Joe’s history, as well as a new armor type, 18 vehicles, and 40 upgrades. There’s a new Focus for each role in the game as well, including the Drone Pilot for infantry and the Neutralizer for Technicians. You’ll also have 3 new Origins and 8 new Influences to choose from, including the Junker and the Futurist, and it’s all topped off with ready-to-use bases for both G.I. Joe and Cobra. Those include the U.S.S. Flagg Aircraft Carrier and Cobra Terror Dromes.

The final G.I. Joe game up for pre-order is G.I. Joe Battle for the Arctic Circle. The game features the gameplay of Axis & Allies with a G.I. Joe theme and includes 3 scenarios to play through. You’ll play as Joes or Cobra and will have a host of units at your disposal, with over 100 figures in the box. That includes regular Troopers, Snow Cat and W.O.L.F Vehicle units, Rattler and Skystriker Aircraft units, and Carrier and Cruiser ship units. You can even use the Weather Dominator to affect the game board and create new strategies on the fly. This retails for $60 and releases in May.

Moving to Power Rangers, the Roleplaying Game series is adding the Beneath the Helmet Sourcebook, which will hit in June and will retail for $45. This new sourcebook will include new content and story ideas for players and GM’s and will bring in the Dino Charge and Dino Thunder Rangers along with their Zords, equipment, and villains like Mesogog, Sledge, and Lord Arcanon. You’ll also have access to new player Roles, including Aqua, Graphite, and Dark Ranger options. Also included are new downtime rules, detailing your home base, and creating your own team.

The Power Rangers Deck-Building Game will also get new content in the It’s Morphin Time expansion, which will retail for $40 and will hit stores this August.  This newest expansion mixes in the show and the comics, bringing in Rocky, Adam, Aisha, and Kat as the new Mighty Morphin team alongside Matt Cook, who is the new Green Ranger in the comics. You’ll face four new villains, including the evil Green Ranger, Master Vile, King Sphinx, and the Psycho Green Ranger. This is not a standalone expansion, so you will need the core game to play.

transformers-beginner-box.jpg

Now it’s time for Transformers, which is receiving a Beginner Box for the Transformers Roleplaying Game. The Beginner Box includes the rulebook, two adventures, 8 pre-generated characters, Transformers dice, and a GM screen just like the G.I. Joe version, and will retail for $35. It will be released in May.

The Transformers: Deck-Building Game is also getting a new expansion titled Chaos Unleashed, which will retail for $30 and will be released in June. This set brings in some fan favorites to play as, including Rodimus Prime, Wreck-Gar, and Galvatron, and they will face the powerful Unicron in battle. The best part though is that you can play this cooperatively or one versus many, and up to four players can take Unicron on. Unicron also comes with his own starter cards and a character card to become playable in the the One versus Many mode.

You can find all of the new games and pre-orders right here, and we’ll keep you posted when more details are revealed. Which games are you most excited for? Jason David Frank’s son Jacob Frank has announced that he will be launching a new Jason David Frank merchandise store with the help of Austin St. John. Power Rangers franchise and Legend of the White Dragon star Jason David Frank unfortunately passed away in the Fall of 2022, and countless fans and co-stars shared their love for the late star following his tragic passing. Among those tributes were Frank’s children, who have shared statements about their father in the past for occasions such as the late star’s 50th birthday. Now Frank’s son has launched a new way for fans to share their love for the late star.

Power Rangers franchise star Austin St. John (who played Jason in the series) shared an announcement on Facebook that Jason David Frank’s son Jacob Frank will be selling some of Jason David Frank’s personal merchandise in a new store. Beginning with the following message, “At Pasadena Comic Con, I met Jacob Frank, Jason David Frank’s son. It felt like stepping back in time, seeing and hearing echoes of his father. Jacob’s presence, filled with dignity, moved some to tears as he connected with fans during the event.” You can see Jacob Frank’s video announcement below.

Jason David Frank’s Son Launches JDF Merch Store

St. John’s message to fans on Facebook continued as such, “Jacob has a heartfelt mission: selling his father’s personal items to support his family and move into a house. I’ve pledged to help, ensuring these precious pieces are offered directly by Jacob, not through my sites. This effort is about family, legacy, and respect.”

St. John’s statement ends with, “To the #JDF fans, this is a chance to honor Jason David Frank’s legacy by supporting his family. Let’s unite, spread the word, and assist Jacob in this meaningful journey. Check the video for links to connect with Jacob directly. This is more than a transaction; it’s about community support. With respect, Austin St. John.”

Jason David Frank’s final role in Legend of the White Dragon is currently scheduled for a release some time in 2024 as of the time of this writing. The film is teased as such, “After being a fugitive on the run for three years, the White Dragon (Jason David Frank) has returned to the city he fought to protect. He must now clear his name and save the family he keeps in secret before the mysterious Dragon Prime (Aaron Schoenke) unleashes his own revenge on the White Dragon.”

A new rumor associated with Fortnite has indicated that skins associated with the classic TV series Mighty Morphin Power Rangers could soon be joining the battle royale game. At this point in time, Fortnite seems to have ties to just about every major franchise that you could think of. From Marvel, DC, and Star Wars, to Halo, God of War, and Dragon Ball Z, it’s a bigger question at this point about which properties haven’t shown up in Fortnite compared to those that have. Now, a new rumor is suggesting that the Power Rangers could be the next major IP to clash with the ever-popular multiplayer title.

Speaking on the latest episode of the XboxEra Podcast, host Nick Baker said that he’s heard from an anonymous source that the Power Rangers are set to be an upcoming collab in Fortnite. Baker, who has previously leaked a number of other crossovers in Fortnite, said that he doesn’t have a ton of details related to the collaboration at the moment. That being said, he did note that these skins could be landing in Fortnite relatively soon while stressing that release plans are always subject to change.

“It may be soon. Remember, Epic is very funny on timelines,” Baker said. “I’ve heard that we might be seeing the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers coming to Fortnite. […] I have no idea how they’re going to structure it, all I got told is that the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers might be coming to Fortnite.”

Elsewhere in mentioning this on the podcast, Baker theorized that Epic would bundle all of the Power Rangers together in a single bundle, much as they did with the recent Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles crossover. Generally speaking, this would make a ton of sense as Epic tends to sell skins and other accessories for various characters as a bundle if said characters are related to one another. If true, this indicates that the Power Rangers bundle in Fortnite would probably contain skins for the Red Ranger, Yellow Ranger, Pink Ranger, Blue Ranger, and Black Ranger. Obviously, this is all just rumor and speculation for the time being, but it’s definitely feasible if this leak comes to fruition.

How would you feel about Power Rangers skins finally landing in Fortnite? And what other collaborations are you hoping to see hit the game in Chapter 5 Season 1 and beyond? Let me know either down in the comments section or reach out to me on social media at @MooreMan12

Power Rangers recently celebrated its 30th anniversary, and now fans have a brand new collection from Shoe Palace to show off their love of the franchise. The Shoe Palace x Power Rangers Collection puts the spotlight on the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers era, featuring the original Rangers and Megazord on an assortment of shirts, pants, and hoodies. The collection features 10 items altogether and includes a few hoodie and pants sets that feature different versions of the Megazord and even a shirt that embraces the comic artwork of Go Go Power Rangers. You can check out the full collection right here, and you can check out more of the collection on the next slide.

One piece that is bound to be a favorite of the collection is the White Ranger Pullover Hoodie, which features the White Ranger’s helmet as the hood. The Megazord hoodies are also slick, with a black-and-white outline version on one and a full-color artwork version on the other. The Black Ranger gets some solo shine on his own shirt as well, and there are plenty of other shirts and pants as part of the line. You can find the official description of the new collection below.

“In 2023, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers celebrated 30 Years. The pop culture phenomenon has made its mark in the world of television, film, and toys. Shoe Palace also celebrated its 30 Anniversary in 2023. Shoe Palace and Power Rangers have both been around for 31 years now. To celebrate, Shoe Palace presents a brand new Mighty Morphin Power Rangers apparel collection that can only be found at Shoe Palace stores and on shoepalace.com.

Kids fell in love with the adventures of the Power Rangers practically from the start. The team’s battles with Rita Repulsa, Lord Zedd, and the rest of their rogues gallery brought in huge ratings from the jump, or from ‘Go Go Power Rangers.’ One of the things that made the Power Rangers so successful was the merchandise. Shoe Palace is bringing exclusive Power Rangers merchandise to its stores. Shoe Palace is honoring the legacy of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers with a collection that includes tees, joggers, and hoodies. Everything in the line features the six OG Rangers, including the MEGAZORD!”

WWE Superstar Ricochet debuted some cool new Power Rangers gear inspired by the Green Ranger for the WWE Royal Rumble! The WWE Royal Rumble premium live event kicks off the year strong on the road to WrestleMania 40, and it’s because many fans get to see the stories we’ll enjoy for the new few months start to take shape. It’s also one of the most anticipated premium live events due to many of the potential returns, surprises, and more that take place during the Rumble matches themselves. It’s also where the WWE Superstars show out the most with new gear and more.

Ricochet has sported cool in-ring gear inspired by Power Rangers in the past, and the superstar really went all out for this year’s WWE Royal Rumble. Bringing in another take on the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, Ricochet’s gear this time around is the green and gold look that Tommy Oliver’s Green Ranger famously took on in the first Mighty Morphin Power Rangers season. Entering at Number 28 and then being eliminated by Drew McIntyre later in the match, it was a powerful showcase. Check it out below.

WWE Royal Rumble 2024 Match Card and Results

Ricochet was only one of the many competitors seen in the Men’s Royal Rumble match, and was only one of the many eliminated before it was all over. It’s the first of many big matches that Ricochet and other Superstars will have their shots at this year, and that means there will just be as many opportunities for big surprises in the months and weeks to come.

The WWE Royal Rumble 2024 premium live event is now ongoing. Starting at Saturday, January 27th at 8 PM ET with a kick-off show that started at 7PM EST in Tampa Bay, FL, the event is now streaming live with Peacock. The current card and results for the premium live event breaks down as such:

  • Women’s Royal Rumble: Bayley wins
  • Undisputed WWE Universal Championship: Roman Reigns def. Randy Orton, LA Knight, and AJ Styles
  • United States Championship: Logan Paul wins vis disqualification
  • Men’s Royal Rumble

What do you think of Ricochet’s Power Rangers gear for the WWE Royal Rumble? Which Power Ranger would you want to see him take on next? Let us know all of your thoughts about it in the comments!

Biggest Oscars Snubs

teenage-mutant-ninja-turtles-mutant-mayhem-bottleneck-gallery-poster-original.jpg

Per ComicBook.com’s article:

Some of the biggest movies to get a spotlight from critics groups all over the country got zero love from the Oscars. The Iron Claw didn’t get any love at all – not for the film itself, director Sean Durkin, or the cast led by Zac Efron. Todd Haynes’ films May December was at least expected to pull nominations for stars Natalie Portman and Julianne Moore, but got nothing; the same is true for Michael Mann’s Ferrari biopic, which had lead actor Adam Driver and Supporting Actress Penelope Cruz in the running for possible nomination. Ava DuVernay’s film Origin was a critics’ favorite but got zero nominations from both the Oscars and Golden Globes. Warner Bros. Pictures continues to lose big on the 2023 version of The Color Purple, with only one Oscar nomination (Best Supporting Actress for Danielle Brooks) to go with the underperforming box office.

While Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and The Boy and The Heron got their expected nominations for Best Animated Feature Film, Paramount’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem was knocked out of the Oscars by surprise contenders Nimona (Netflix) and Elemental (Disney/Pixar).

barbie-margot-robbie-oscars-snub-2024.jpg

Margot Robbie is the most conspicuous name missing from the Best Actress category – despite Barbie making it into a variety of categories, including Best Picture. Barbie director Greta Gerwig was also snubbed in the Best Director category, even though the film got recognized in so many other creative categories (Original Song, Adapted Screenplay, Costume Design, Production Design). It’s also causing a stir that Robbie’s co-star Ryan Gosling got a Best Supporting Actor nod for playing Ken (the Ken song “I’m Just Ken” was also nominated), while America Ferrera got a Best Supporting Actress nod for her role.

Meanwhile, Leonardo DiCaprio was the only major member of Killers of the Flower Moon’s ensemble to be snubbed; Martin Scorsese (Best Director), Robert De Niro (Best Supporting Actor), Lily Gladstone (Best Actress) and the film itself (Best Picture) were all recognized.

The 2024 Oscars ceremony will be televised on Sunday, March 10 at 7pm ET on ABC.

2024 will see the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers back in action courtesy of BOOM! Studios, Amy Jo Johnson, Matt Hotson, and Nico Leon, and now we have our first real look at the anticipated new series. That new series is fittingly titled Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Return and will be co-written by Johnson and Hotson and drawn by Leon. The series is set twenty-two years after the team defeated Rita Repulsa and Lord Zedd, but they disbanded sometime after due to tragedy. Now they are reuniting to find the missing Red Ranger, and you can check out the full preview of the issue on the next slide.

The preview gives us a glimpse of what may have happened to Jason, as the Red Ranger heads to the ruins of the Command Center but is confronted by a mysterious foe. They manage to not only knock him down but also somehow remove his power coin, but there are still plenty of questions left to be answered, including why the command center is in such disarray, who that foe is, and what Jason was looking for. You can check out the official description below and you can find the full preview on the next slide.

“In an alternate universe, the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers defeated Rita Repulsa and Lord Zedd, but at a terrible cost…and in the wake of that tragedy, the team went their separate ways. Twenty-two years later, the long-disbanded team reunites to mourn the losses of beloved friends, but Zack and Billy have some unexpected information to share: Jason- the Red Ranger, who has long been operating as a lone vigilante-has disappeared. Will the remaining Rangers be able to track him down, especially with a mysterious figure in pursuit?”

“It’s incredibly exciting to partner with my boyfriend, Matt Hotson, as we set out to offer our own interpretation of the Power Rangers. What if the original team had never separated? Where would they be 30 years later? This comic book is our affectionate tribute to an entire generation, and we genuinely hope it does justice to the legacy that means so much to all of you! Seeing our story come to life through Nico Leon’s artistry has been the most thrilling part of creating this comic book,” Johnson said. “Nico’s childhood love for the show adds a special layer to the project, as he infuses his incredible artistic talent and incorporates intricate Easter eggs and details throughout. We couldn’t be more ecstatic with the results!”

“As the actress behind the original Pink Power Ranger, I’m stepping into the world of comic books and unleashing my creative vision with a ‘what if’ story that reimagines the enduring bond of the original Power Rangers,” Johnson said. “With this project, we’re eager to offer fans a nostalgic yet fresh perspective on these beloved characters while creating a whole new adventure!”

Godzilla is on a high these days, and now the King of the Monsters is preparing for another crossover. While the titan gears up for his next fight with Kong in theaters, a different version of the monster is prepping to take on the Power Rangers. After all, Godzilla vs The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers is making a comeback, and the sequel will go live in a matter of months.

Yes, you read that right. A sequel is coming for Godzilla vs The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. IDW Publishing announced the comeback this week, and the team there confirmed Godzilla will take on the famous senatai warriors next April.

godzilla-vs-the-mighty-morphin-power-rangers-cover-a-600x600-small.jpg

“It’s SKREEONKin’ time! Again! The kaiju comic book crossover event of 2022 is coming back, bigger and badder as the King of the Monsters gets a rematch with everyone’s favorite teeangers with attitude in Godzilla vs. The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers II #1 from IDW Publishing in April,” IDW Publishing revealed.

The sequel will be written by Cullen Bunn as they oversaw the first crossover in 2022. Godzilla vs The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers II will feature art by Baldemar Rivas, colors by Andrew Dalhouse, and letters by Johanna Guzman. The miniseries will feature five total issues, and IDW Publishing promises to give Rita Repulsa the upperhand when she shows up in this crossover.

“The first Godzilla vs. The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers was pure, unadulterated fun and mayhem on the page! How could it not be?” wrote Bunn. “I had such an amazing time working on that story, so I simply had to try my hand at it once again! If I was going to pit Godzilla against the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers again, though, I knew I needed to do something huge! Mayhem alone was not enough! And, believe me, what we’re doing in this new series is something wild and unexpected and game-changing! If you’re a Rangers fan… if you’re a Godzilla fan… if you’re a fan of bonkers fun… buckle up, because this series is going to knock you off your feet!”

If you have not checked out the original run of Godzilla vs The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, a collected volume is out now from IDW Publishing. As for this upcoming run, you can read all about it courtesy of the official synopsis below:

“Worlds collide a second time as everyone’s favorite kaiju meets up with Earth’s mightiest warriors once again to take on the most fearsome monsters from both sides of the multiverse, with Rita Repulsa egging them on! This one has it all: SpaceGodzilla! Clawhammer! Tentacreep! But what exactly does Rita intend to do with their collective might, and how have her mysterious new allies, Astronema and the Alliance of Evil, given her added reach across worlds? The Power Rangers are on a mission to find out, but first…all roads lead back to Godzilla!”

The genre known as Sentai has given fans all over the world some major television series and movies over the year. It’s hard to debate that the most popular in North America has become the Power Rangers franchise, first beginning with Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers and spawning countless seasons, movies, and specials during its history. Recently, a new hilarious hero from Japan has emerged in the form of “Dentman”, who might not be the crime fighter that you are expecting.

Dentman first emerged in 2016, but has become widely known thanks to the pictures that have found their way online of the Sentai-style hero sharing tips on how to keep citizens’ teeth clean. Creating a number of social media accounts to promote teeth cleaning, Dentman has a hilarious villain that he will routinely face down who just so happens to have a piece of candy for a face. At present, Dentman has yet to receive his own television series and/or feature length film, but he is still crusading across Japan in an effort to fight cavities.

Dentman Rises

Social media users have been discovering Dentman recently, with the Sentai-style hero even taking the opportunity to respond to potential fans. Aside from carrying around a giant tooth brush as his go-to weapon, Dentman also has a helmet that is modeled from a human tooth, really hammering home the aesthetic.

Unsurprisingly, Dentman has an official website, and here’s how the wandering superhero describes himself, “An oral warrior dispatched from the tooth fairy world. He is based around the world and works daily to protect the oral peace of humankind. Under the slogan “Root Canal Filling in Your Heart,” he is working to reduce the number of people who dislike dentists and tooth brushing.”

The latest Power Rangers to arrive on Netflix was Power Rangers Cosmic Fury. Here’s how the streaming service describes the latest Sentai series, “”Lord Zedd has escaped, and this time his rampage extends to the farthest reaches of space! The Rangers need to find new Zords and new powers to face Zedd’s latest threat, and they won’t do so alone. Joined by some familiar faces, they will discover the power of the Cosmic Orbs and become the Cosmic Fury Rangers, armed with new uniforms, new weapons, and an entire new fleet of Zords!”

Who is your favorite Sentai hero in the history of the genre? Feel free to let us know in the comments or hit me up directly @EVComedy to talk all things comics and anime.

The original Pink Ranger is now jumping into the world of comics with a brand new series, and the latest revelation from that series has fans talking. BOOM! Studios is currently holding a Kickstarter for Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Return, a four-issue series from the team of writers Amy Jo Johnson and Matt Hotson and artist Nico Leon (Spider-Man, Catwoman), which you can find right here. The Return reveals an alternate history for the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers team, and part of that reimagined future is the new Green Ranger, whose name is Olivia Hart. That certainly sounds like the daughter of Tommy Oliver and Kimberly Hart, and Johnson revealed our first look at Olivia in new artwork from Dan Mora.

On Instagram, Johnson wrote, “Introducing #OliviaHart #GreenRanger poster and character design by @dan_mora_c for #MMPRTheReturn @boom_studios written by @atothedoublej & #matthotson art by #nicoleon now available for PREORDER (link in my bio) This comic book is a love letter from me to all of YOU!! 🩷💚 #powerrangers.”

While it hasn’t been specifically stated that Olivia Hart is the daughter of Tommy and Kimberly, it does seem to be the case. In addition to her name representing both characters, her character design by Mora incorporates both green and pink into her civilian clothes. We’ll have to wait and see how this all plays out, but if this is the case, it would also be a lovely tribute to the late Jason David Frank. The series’ official description provides some insight into where the Rangers are at this moment in time, and you can find that description below.

“Twenty-two years ago, the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers achieved their ultimate victory against the forces of evil… and it cost them everything. Now, the long-disbanded team reunites to mourn the losses of beloved friends, but Zack and Billy have some unexpected information to share – Jason, the Red Ranger, has been operating as a lone vigilante, and has since disappeared. Will the remaining Rangers be able to track him down, especially with a mysterious figure in pursuit?

This is just the beginning of a much larger story that is unlike anything POWER RANGERS fans have ever seen on television, in film, or in comic books, which rewrites the present and future of the beloved Mighty Morphin Power Rangers characters, introduces new sure-to-be fan-favorite characters, and introduces bold new storytelling opportunities for the franchise.”

You can back the campaign right now and reserve your copy of The Return, but that’s not all you can add to your collection through the campaign. In celebration of Johnson and the Pink Ranger, BOOM! Studios is releasing a brand new edition of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Pink. There will also be limited and signed editions and exclusive merchandise to pick up, with more goals to be revealed as the campaign continues.

Are you excited for Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Return? Let us know in the comments or as always you can talk all things Power Rangers with me on Threads @mattaguilarcb!

Plus, there’s even one that will be a brilliant fit for your next Christmas hangout, and you probably know exactly what that is. Hint….SANTA!!!

If you’re looking for a more one-on-one experience, it was a great year for card games, especially for My Hero Academia and the Vs. series, which had entries for Mortal Kombat, AEW, and Marvel throughout the year. If you’re looking for something different, The Op and Foxmind have you covered with games that tackle very different themes. For larger experiences, there are plenty of options to choose from this year, so you will have an easy time getting lost in a whole new world when these games hit your table.

You can check out all of our recommendations on the next slide, and let us know which games you are looking forward to picking up in the comments. You can also talk all things tabletop and gaming with me on Threads @mattaguilarcb!

In other Power Rangers news, it was revealed during this past San Diego Comic-Con event that Legend of the White Dragon, the final feature film starring Jason David Frank, will launch in 2024.

What Is Legend of the White Dragon?

Legend of the White Dragon is currently slated to release in 2024 as director and co-writer Aaron Schoenke explained that the team is now in the midst of reshoots to add in more materials that Jason David Frank had wanted. Which is why it will no longer be releasing on its intended date on September 4th this year, Frank’s 50th birthday. “We were done with principal photography with Jason, and now we are doing reshoots to add a lot of things that he wanted to add in… We only get one chance to make Jason’s last movie, and that’s what’s going to last for forever. So I hope you all understand, it’s only because we want to make it the best possible.”

Legend of the White Dragon stars Jason David Frank alongside Mark Dacascos (John Wick III), King Bach (Walking Dead, Greenland), Michael Madsen (Kill Bill 1 & 2, Sin City), David Ramsey (Arrow, The Flash), Aaron Schoenke, Jason Faunt, Rachel Brooke Smith, Ciara Hanna, Kevin Porter, Mayling Ng, Cerina Vincent, and Jenna Rae Frank. Its story is teased as such, “After being a fugitive on the run for three years, the White Dragon (Jason David Frank) has returned to the city he fought to protect. He must now clear his name and save the family he keeps in secret before the mysterious Dragon Prime (Aaron Schoenke) unleashes his own revenge on the White Dragon.”

“When Jason David Frank tragically took his own life late last year, it became the filmmaker’s mission to honor his legacy by completing the film the way Frank envisioned it. Frank was a beloved actor who still has a great emotional impact on fans around the world. He was a world-renowned and acclaimed martial artist, who brought the same passion to his performances on the screen. In this film, Jason David Frank plays Erik Reed, a complex character that really allowed him to showcase his incredible range as an actor,” the press release reads.

“We are proud to have worked with such a talented actor, and we are grateful for the opportunity to share his final performance with the world,” said filmmaker and co-star Aaron Schoenke. “Having been on this journey with Jason for 10 years, I know he would be beyond excited to know that Legend of the White Dragon will be opening in theaters.”

Hasbro had several anticipated reveals up their sleeve at PulseCon, and one of the biggest was from the world of Power Rangers. Today Hasbro officially pulled the curtain back on the Power Rangers Lightning Collection Tommy Oliver Master Morpher, an item that has been talked about for quite some time but had never been confirmed by Hasbro. That changed today at PulseCon, and the Master Morpher will feature six diecast Power Coins that include all of Tommy’s various Ranger forms from Mighty Morphin, Zeo, Turbo, and Dino Thunder. The Morpher also features all new lines of dialogue recorded by Frank before his tragic passing, and Hasbro Pulse will be making a donation to the JED Foundation to honor Frank’s legacy with the franchise. You can order the Tommy Oliver Master Morpher exclusively on Hasbro Pulse right here for $64.99, and orders for non-premium Pulse members open up at 5 EST. You can check out everything available from PulseCon right here.

The Master Morpher fits into a stone-styled base that fits all of the Power Coins. There is also a storage compartment at the center of the base if you want to store Coins there. Seeing the Morpher on camera, the chrome is impressive and immediately makes it pop off the screen. The coins are die-cast metal, and when you insert each coin into the Morpher you will get sounds and lines of dialogue based solely on that Ranger form. The button on the side opens the Morpher and it lights up around the coin before the dialogue kicks in.

Frank recorded quite a bit of dialogue for the Morpher, and the team said there are some easter eggs and plenty of references contained within the new lines. This is exclusive to Hasbro Pulse, so it may be a limited item, but hopefully, everyone who wants one will eventually be able to get one.

During the presentation of the Master Morpher, Hasbro’s Emily Bader said, “We were able to work with the wonderful late Jason David Frank on this item. He actually came in and recorded new unique lines for the audio for this item. And so the Master Morpher is going to be one of our Pulse Con exclusives for today, and we are really really honored that we were both able to work on this product.”

“That it was something we were able to do as a company, and we just wanted to take a moment for…Power Rangers is a lot of fun and a lot of excitement, but just a quick kind of serious moment to say thank you so much to Jason for his legacy on the brand. For his family. For helping us work through this process, and that we just really appreciate everything about this item,” Bader said.

“So in honor of the release of the Lightning Collection Master Morpher and Jason’s legacy, Hasbro Pulse will be making a donation to the JED Foundation, which is a foundation that provides support and resources to mental health protection and suicide prevention among young adults and teens. And so many of us at Hasbro, both Tommy and Jason were some of our childhood heroes, and so this opportunity to work with Jason David Frank on this time was really a once-in-a-lifetime experience that we will always cherish,” Bader said.

You can find the Master Morpher on Hasbro Pulse here.

A Haunting In Venice Review

haunting-in-venice-review.jpg

In his 3-star review of A Haunting In Venice , ComicBook.com movie critic Charlie Ridgley agreed with ComicBook Nation host Kofi Outlaw that the film is at odds with itself, even while being entertaining overall:

A ghost story and a murder mystery shouldn’t have much of a problem coexisting, but Branagh directs this film as though they’re two separate entities. When the film is only focused on its haunted elements, it’s intense and intriguing. When it’s focused on being a whodunit, it’s as entertaining as Branagh’s first two Poirot films. But for some reason, those two things can’t live together with any sort of harmony. There’s a constant whiplash from one to the other, from the tone of each scene down to the way they’re shot. At times, it feels like there are two different movies here. They’re both pretty solid, but it’s exhausting to watch them play tug-of-war.

Tabletop’s September Releases Include Disney Lorcana, Borderlands, My Little Pony Transformers Crossover, and More https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/tabletops-september-releases-include-disney-lorcana-borderlands-my-little-pony-transformers-crossover-and-more/ Sat, 09 Sep 2023 21:24:00 +0000 https://comicbook.com/?p=493241 new-tabletop-september-header.jpg

September is a stacked month for Tabletop game releases, and the good news (or bad news if you happen to be someone’s wallet) is that anticipated releases continue to hit throughout the entire month. There’s a little bit of everything in this month’s releases, starting with the phenomenon that is Disney Lorcana, which hit mass retail to kick off the September lineup. There’s more to get hyped over though, as Marvel Champions fans have two new heroes to add to their collections, while Star Wars: Shatterpoint will deliver two new squad packs. The new Borderlands board game will also arrive in stores, as will the anticipated Transformers and My Little Pony crossover expansion. Descent Legends of the Dark will also get its second act The Betrayer’s War, and The Op will hit stores with its new game Express Route. You can check out all of the new releases on the next slide, and you can find some of the highlights below.

Borderlands: Mister Torgue’s Arena of Badassery is a cooperative multiplayer board game in which you and your friends face off against a horde of bandits, monsters, and villains controlled by the game. You are Vault Hunters who have stumbled into Torgue’s Tournament in a violent gladiator pit where Torgue will send psychos, skags, and anything else he can think of after you for the amusement of his audience… and the cash of his sponsors!

You can play this game as a series of scenarios that provide you with details on how to set up the arena game board, enemies spawning, special rules that are used during the game, and most importantly, how you can achieve victory. Scenarios can also link together to form campaigns, and when each is complete, you’ll be able to visit the vending machine, mod your character, and enter the next scenario even more badass than before! But never forget that Mr. Torgue is hellbent on sending you back to the Borderlands as moist and meaty skag-snacks!!!

My Little Pony Deck-Building Game Collision Course a Transformers Crossover Expansion: Due to some magical mayhem, the Transformers find themselves in Equestria! The Decepticons teaming up with nefarious Pony Villains can’t lead to anything good. The Mane Six (and Spike!) team up with the Autobots as two in one character cards. Use the mighty Autobots’ abilities by generating Energon on cards (or getting an energy boost by eating a Sugar Cube instead!) This is an expansion and requires the My Little Pony: Adventures in Equestria Deck-Building Game to play.

In Disney Lorcana, players race to be the first to collect 20 Lore, which they do by sending characters summoned from their deck off on quests. When characters are questing, they can be challenged by opposing characters, which can leave them damaged or banished from play. Players summon cards and pay for actions and items using cards in their inkwell. Players can commit one card per turn to their inkwell, where it becomes a reusable resource for the remainder of the turn. The game includes three kinds of characters – Storyborn characters pulled directly from various Disney movies and properties, Dreamborn characters with new traits and characteristics, and mysterious Floodborn characters who can be summoned at a lower cost if a player has a character of the same name already in play.

Saban's Power Rangers At New York Comic Con 2017 - Day 1

On what would have been his 50th birthday, Jason David Frank’s daughter Jenna posted a powerful tribute to her late father across social media.

“I can’t put my pain into words. I still can’t believe you’re gone. I was with you on your birthday last year,” Jenna wrote in an Instagram post. “I picked you up at the airport you were so happy to see me. You are my book to life, You taught me everything I know. You are more than just my dad. You are my very best friend, my partner in crime, my brother. You are everything in one.

She added, “We struggled with the same mental problems. You always understood me when nobody else did  I WILL win this battle for you. I will break the curse. I promise. Happy 50th b-day pops! You always would tell me I’m your biggest angel. Now you’re mine.”

Frank died by suicide last November. Immediately following news of his death, rumors started to swirl as to what happened on the night he was found, causing his wife Tammie to clarify the situation a week later.

“My name is Tammie Frank, and my husband was Jason David Frank, who tragically lost his life to suicide just last week,” Tammie said in a statement sent to PEOPLE Magazine last December. “While Jason was a well-known name to some, we lived a very normal life with ups and downs, just like anyone else. It has shocked and saddened me beyond belief to see that the media has turned my family’s tragedy into a tall tale. Since Jason’s death, I have been harassed online and can no longer stand to watch my husband’s good name slandered.”

“I don’t know if the hotel staff or a guest called the police, but after I was taken downstairs by the police, they were able to open the door and found that Jason took his life,” she added. “These were the ‘disturbances’ that has been brought up numerous times online… All we want is to remember Jason and our happiest memories, and move on from the pain of losing a loved one. I only ask for sympathy and understanding during this difficult time. To all the fans and supporters of Jason and our family, thank you for your kind words and wishes and God bless you all.”

If you, or someone you know, is struggling with a mental health crisis, there is no shame in asking for help: just call 988, or go to this website to learn more information about suicide prevention.
